Hi I have had herpes for several years and am only now in the last 6 months experiencing symptoms. I have outbreaks every month so bad that I don’t know when one starts and the other ends. I was put on Valacyclovir 1 gram twice a day since October but I don’t think it’s working. I still feel tingling every night in my vaginal area as well as leg pain every day. Why would I not be responding to treatment and does the tingling mean the virus is still active and contagious? How can it be active for so long?
When you say that you don’t think it is working, is that because you are still having tingling? Are you still have bad outbreaks or just the tingling? The tingling could be due to the herpes or that, combined with the leg pain, could be due to something else completely like a disc compression. Let me know how, if at all, the Valtrex has changed your outbreak pattern. Also, let me know what you mean by “outbreak”. Thanks
Terri
I usually only have one-two blisters during an outbreak however the pain from it is burning, itching, pain in the back of my legs… Most of the time it’s my right leg. The tingling I experience at random times usually in the evening is a creepy crawly feeling under my skin towards my rectal area that lasts a few seconds and then comes back randomly. I have had an exray done of my back at my last doctors appointment in October and it looked fine. Why I dont feel the meds are working is because I’m still getting blisters. My last ob healed three days ago but the leg pain and tingles are still present.
I would suggest that you have a swab test done of the blisters to see if there is herpes virus in the blisters. Are the blisters like water blisters or do they have pus in them? How long do they take to heal? Do they form a crust, an ulcer?
