Hi Terri,
Like most I bought the complete panel not knowing the pitfalls of hsv 2 testing. I tested negative for all except Hsv-1 which I knew I had since 2018 with a level 47, and I also tested for Hsv-2 with a level of 2.5. And a negative supplemental test. I’ve read many go back and forth with numerous test and my question to you is can I stop here at the supplemental test being negative as an asymptomatic person, and have confidence that indicates negative, or false positive? Also is it possible that my high level of hsv-1 could’ve triggered hsv2 on a test? I’ve also never had a cold sore in my life.
There is very good agreement between people who get a negative supplemental tests and subsequent negative western blots. it is most likely that your high HSV 1 antibody level is triggering a false positive HSV 2.
Terri
