Hi terri! From what I researched, taking anti vitals could effect blood test results…..Now, I’m wondering if taking lysine (I’m currently taking 3g daily) would be suppressing any development of HSV antibodies to happen naturally? I tested negative at 3, 6, and most recently 8 weeks.(I know I still need to wait at least 12 weeks for most accurate results) Ive experienced some atypical symptoms however blisters. I’ve been to multiple doctors and it really seems like I’ve obtained more information regarding HSV then have knowledge of. I even had a doctor at urgent care the other day tell me HSV igg antibodies “max out” at 3 weeks then disappear…..Which I know is absolutely incorrect. Anyway, in regards to my question about lysine is that (from what I’ve read) lysine acts as an antagonist to the metabolism of arginine…that being said HSV synthesizes arginine in its replication process. So I guess what I’m asking is why wouldn’t an abundant amount of lysine also inhibit detectable HSV antibody levels. Any other insight of additional information on antibody production would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time!

There is no good evidence that in the BODY Lysine does anything to help with herpes – this is different than in a petri dish where most of the urban legend about lysine -arginine comes from. the metanalysis study of lysine did not show a benefit from taking this amino acid as it relates to herpes. One must be cautious because many of the lysine studies are poorly done.
But to answer your question, antiviral don’t make a difference in testing either UNLESS they are taken for an extended period of time immediately after a brand new diagnosis. And Lysine has no impact at all.

Thank you for your response regarding antibody production and lysine.
I (female) was exposed to a ghsv2 positive male on 5/14. (Not protected) which is why I had been taking 3g of Lysine along with other “natural” supplements. Although, now I know these aren’t proven to help with HSV.
Some atypical symptoms I’ve been experiencing is a burning/tingle in my vaginal area, and once in a while an electric type shock. Prior I did test positive for a yeast infection and was treated accordingly. This was most likely due to antibiotics given to me from planned parenthood for prevention treatment after the 5/14 incident. However, These symptoms still persist. I also have somewhat of a groin pain, like an aching, or bruise type feeling. It also happens under my arm pits and sometimes behind my knees, almost like pressure coming out from inside. Weird.
Again, I’ve tested negative at 3,6, and 8 weeks. My most recent test came back as .08 antibodies for hsv2, which I’m aware is negative. My questions are, if these are in fact hsv symptoms, shouldn’t my body be responding accordingly by creating antibodies?
Also, is testing at 12 weeks most accurate because leading up to the 12 weeks people tend to test equivocal or low positive? Thanks so much for your time, and look forward to reading your response.

I think if you test negative on the IgG test at 8 weeks, you will very likely test negative at 12 weeks as well. The IgG test picks up 92% of HSV 2, so it’s pretty darn good. I think it is unlikely that these symptoms were related to HSV 2.
