Hi Terri,
First off, I want to say thank you for creating this website and answering questions about hsv!
I wanted to know how long hsv1 can survive on surfaces???? I googled it and a study popped up showing it can survive on surfaces like stainless steel for up to 8 weeks?! Here is the link:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/167927/
I couldn’t find the actual study, but this study is referenced in other sites/books.
Can you share any actual studies?
Reason why I ask. My husband and I both have hsv1 orally. Back in Novemeber my father ate pieces of my leftovers when I had an outbreak but he never showed signs of an outbreak. Well in our vacation home I think he had his first outbreak (not 100%) but we visited the home a month after. My husband touched the bathroom door knob and then his privates to pee. It has been exactly 1 month & this study made me worry. Possibility of him transferring it to his privates?
Thanks again Terri
Once you have HSV 1 in one location it is extremely unlikely to get it in a new location. And doorknobs are definitely NOT a means of transmission.
HSV would not live on any surface for 8 weeks. That is some kind of publication error if you did indeed find this.
Terri
Thanks for the response. We had another encounter today with someone with a cold sore. We said hi with the usual side kiss. Could she have passed it to me if our cheeks touched? I think she just touched my hair and I went straight home to wash my hair.
Idk how transmissions works. So many misleading “studies “
Transmnission occurs when the virus of an infected person comes into contact with an uninfected person at their mucous membranes or where skin has broken. it does not go through intact skin like your cheek.
