About two months ago I tested positive for HSV 2 with a result of 1.68. HSV 1 was negative. Last month I submitted to a WB and my result was Indeterminate.
My sexual history: my only possible exposure was with one partner 5-5 1/2 years ago. You stated UoW would consider the Indeterminate combined with the length of time from possible exposure to be a negative result. Your interpretation would be the same, just not at 100%
Question: Would submitting to another WB help eliminate or reduce the uncertainty?
Thank you.
Usually, it still comes back indeterminate. I know, such a bummer. Do you know the antibody status of the person you had sex with 5.5 years ago?
have you participated in the study we are doing of people with indeterminate western blot?
Terri
Thank you. I will be participating in your research.
I have considered contacting her, but due to the length of time there are just too many possibilities. She could be negative, she could be positive, she could never been tested, she could take the test and if she is positive she might have been exposed pre/post our relationship. All this brings me back to me just getting tested or re-tested. Let me ask the worst case possibility-she is positive but does not know when she contracted the virus, either pre/post our relationship. How would that impact my current test results?
Thank you
A positive would not change your result whatsoever.
A negative would make a world of difference to you.
In my mind, you have absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain here.
Thanks for agreeing to do our study – it is so important to keep working on herpes testing that provides clear answers. And if there is anyone else reading this that has had a indeterminate western blot ever, please contact Basak in our office if your interested in participating – basak@westoverheights.com. She will work with you on the informed consent and ship you a kit for the study .
