I have a new partner and we did the at home HIV TEST. I had a discharge and went to a new GYN who ordered HSV tests. I checked the results online today and I’m in shock.
HSV1 IgG Type Spec: 55.4 (high)
HSV2 IgG Type Spec : 6.26 (high)
I have never had a outbreak or any symptoms. GYN stated discharge was bacterial. I spoke to my partner today and he stated he never had symptoms. I’m at a loss. Can you help me clarify these results? Thank you -

Follow up question, can the high hsv1 number trigger that positive hsv2?

Hi Terri, I am really worried about this HSV2 result and have not been able to sleep at all. I know I’ve had HSV1 since childhood. I’m really shocked at how the number is since I haven’t had a breakout in years. My new partner had a recent outbreak a few months ago but I did not come in contact with his lips on anything. Should I retest and take the western bot to confirm these results? I am desperate for guidance. I never had any outbreak in the genital area so does this indicate a recent contact?

Hi Terri,
I don’t know at this point how to ask my questions because I haven’t gotten a response in 5 days since I first posted. Should I try and make an appointment instead? -

When you keep posting new posts as you have done, it makes it look like a new post and keeps moving it up.
I have seen false positives as high as 17, comparing IgG to western blot
If you have never had an outbreak of genital sores, yes, I would recommend that you obtain the western blot for clarity.Terri

My apologies for that, I’ve been really stressed out and sleepless over this. I will do the western blot but why would a Dr order a test if I never ever had symptoms and I stated that. No other Dr had mentioned that and she didn’t seem concerned at the high number. My question is does the numbers reflect a new infection or past antibody numbers 6.2 just seemed off the charts to me

The guidance from the CDC suggests, due to the poor test performance of the readily available IgG tests, that people without symptoms not be screened using the IgG tests on the market now. If someone wants to know if they have HSV, they could certainly be screened at the appropriate time frame, using the herpes western blot antibody from the Universit of Washington. It can be ordered for anyone living anywhere in the US but it’s expensive and it must be shipped and requires a blood draw somewhere. Having said that, people definitely do it both to screen and to eliminate false positives from a test already obtained.
