Tested hsv2 negative hsv1 IGG

34 y/o female hx of hsv 1. No outbreaks ever. Did have chickenpox and mono as a child. Had unprotected sex may 5th. In June 10th, hsv 1 negative and hsv 2 positive glycoprotein 14.8 IGG. I am asymptomatic. Partner whom I engaged in unprotected sex got tested right after me and hsv 1 and 2 negative for antibodies. Last time I was tested was on 3/28-23 and hsv 1 was 11 IGG and hsv 2 negative. I have had two partners since. One with condom and one without unfortunately. No observations of cold sores seen on them. I am confused because how is my hsv 1 now negative? I would think I would have both hsv 1 and 2. My question is , I see that anything above 3.5 IGG is pretty accurate but then I see conflicting articles that hsv 1 can alter the test and make you show a false positive? The reason I got tested in march was because I had what I thought was genital warts but they did a pathology and it came back as molluscum contagiosm and had then frozen off. I know it may seem like I often sleep around but this is not the case. It has just been an unfortunate set of events recently. My doctor did order the western blot and I am awaiting my kit but I would like to know if there is any chance it could be false positive for hsv2.

The hsv 2 positive was from CPL lab . The march 28th hsv2 test was IGG AB type specific . And 3 partners in the last 2 years. I consistently get tested anytime I have a new partner. So far 1 out of 3 partners I was with is negative. I just got tested again today at CPL

Update. Hope this is ok. Now my hsv2 index is 12.8 and hsv1 .799.

This is so strange because ever since I found out I have hsv 1, I get tested for hsv 1 and 2 yearly

I’ll be very interested in your western blot result. It was done at UW, correct?
the HSV 1 can get missed by the IgG test one of out three times, but the blot will clarify all of this for you. Can you let me know the result when you get it?

Yes. I am worried sick and have never been so stressed out in my entire life. If I am indeed positive for hsv2 , I am completely shocked I have not had an outbreak bc I am physically I’ll from this. Have you seen this before? The blood test will arrive tomorrow. Does it normally take the full 3 weeks for result ?

Many people who test accurately positive for HSV 2 report no symptoms at all. However, once a diagnosis is made, the majority can identify symptoms within 6-12 months.
The blot normally just takes a shorter time, but we give a longer time frame because sometimes, they have to remove any HSV 1 antibody to look more closely for HSV 2 and that takes longer.
Are you in touch with the person with whom you had unprotected intercourse to ask them to get tested?

Thank you for your expertise on this topic. I do have more questions. I have put in at least 20 hours of research. To answer your question. One out of three is negative. The partner I used a condom with is awaiting his IGG results and the other one is basically refusing saying there’s no way he can have it. Dumbass has never been tested and is 45 years old and says he’s never had an outbreak.

1. Since the molluscum contagiosom is a pox virus can it alter the IGG test? I read that the blot test looks at 16 diff types of protein in the blood and if there’s 4 present then positive for hsv2.

2. I am wondering if the IGG test can cross react between hsv1 and hsv2.

3. I mailed my western blot in and ups lost my package . I am devastated. Is there a chance I can be false positive even though my index is 12.8? Maybe I am in denial. I just feel in my heart I don’t have it.

Absolutely not.
And you are correct, the blot looks for 16 proteins and four must be present to be positive.

Oh damn!! Are you sure?? UPS or USPS? Do you have a tracking number?
I have seen false positives at this number or higher.

Ups. It finally arrived on Monday morning when I shipped it Monday evening and paid 160 to overnight it. So I’m redoing it. I did get confirmation that all 3 partners tests were negative.
