› Forums › Herpes Questions › Tested positive in IGG, supplemental and Immunoblot, false positive possibility
I booked an appointment with you already but would just like to post it in the forum for maybe an earlier reply, and for everyone’s reference.
I tested for HSV-2 out of curiosity through STDCheck because it was not included in the my STD panel. I tested positive for HSV-1 about five years ago, with IGG of 39.
The original test was taken on 07/27/2022, result came back positive with IGG of 1.93, the supplemental test also came out positive.
I took the HSV Immunoblot as a confirmation test on 07/30/2022, came back positive for both HSV-1 and HSV-2, with no index value.
I was born out of of US in Asia. It is noted that you have mentioned people born outside of US have a high rate of false positive. In addition, I been having a hive breakout during the testing period – not sure if it will affect the test result at all, just an FYI.
Could my result still be false positive with all three tests came out positive? If so, whats the percentage like based on your experience and best judgement. I understand it’s just an estimate.
Do you still recommend a western blot or is it unlikely all three tests are wrong.
Thank you so much for your help!
Additionally, HSV-2 was negative five years ago when I tested positive for HSV-1.
Yes, these could all be false positives. I still recommend the western blot, no question about it.

Terri,
Thank you for your response. It is noted in your previous replies that with IGG of 1.93 , there is a 70% chance of it being false positive.
Could you say with my situation, the probability remain around 70% or lower?
Yes, 70% seems about right to me. Or better.
Terri
