Hello Terri,
I’ve had unprotected vaginal and oral sex with three women recently. The first was about 14 weeks ago, the second about 10 weeks ago, and the third 2 weeks ago. I tested positive for HSV2 a week ago. The score was 1.27 from LabCorp. I’ve never had any symptoms.
I just took a second test at Quest today and don’t have the results. I asked for this to be a Western Blot and they said it was, but then I checked their website and it says they do an IGG Inhibition Essay that’s better than WB for confirmation.
My question(s):
1) How likely is it the first test was a false negative?
2) Is the Quest test as good as the WB?
3) If it’s not, how do I get a WB? I can’t find a place to do them. I don’t know what the difference is.

The first test was positive – I don’t understand your question?
2) Is the Quest test as good as the WB?
Not in the opinion of all the herpes experts, no.

You can work through me to get the blot – this is not a test you can order yourself. They are done with totally different techniques. For them to say it is better than the western blot is quite a misleading statement. You should order the kit from the University of Washington at 206-685-6066 and then work through you own provider or work through me. We know labs in your area that can draw your blood, usually.

I’m sorry, I meant what’s the likelihood it was a false positive?
1) What is the likelihood the first test (1.27) was a false positive?
2) If my confirmation test comes back positive from Quest, what is the chance Western Blot shows negative?
1) What is the likelihood the first test (1.27) was a false positive?
There is an 85% chance that this is a false positive
2) If my confirmation test comes back positive from Quest, what is the chance Western Blot shows negative?
We have both agreement between the inhibition assay and disagreement. I’m not sure.
Terri
