I went to a clinic this morning to ask for depression pills I’m not dealing with this very well haven’t eating sense I found out . Does worry and anxiety make u not eat I hope so also am bieng tested for hiv and hepatitis . Before this news I felt fine . So hopefully there is nothing else wrong if I was infected with other things I may have had symptoms possibly? I think I’m just really worked up . My body has been itchy and burning alittle . Uhhh I don’t know . So my question is can i take antiviral pills and depression pills I’m considering zoloft.

Terri we spoke a few days ago . I asked about my son getting hsv2 . Here is the thing for 4 to 5 weeks I hade symtoms of burning itching discharge went to 3 different doctors said it wasn’t hsv . So I went about my day as usual bieng at home not knowing I had hsv2 I was careless in hygiene with faucets bedding etc. The time between 4 to 5 weeks with those symtoms I never shaved the vagina area let it grow . But one time I did but just the bikini line . No where else . My son was at school at the time of shaving . So it was a good time in between I think he may have used my razor . I’m pretty sure he did . I told u noticed him itching a bit and a couple days later he got sick stuffy nose and cough he may have been a little warm in the morning but once he was awake he seemed to be ok .But he seemed ok after he woke up . Today he was in the shower and said ouch. I said what . he said it hurt to pee . Maybe he just had alot and qas holding it all night. He hasn’t said anything about sores or anything but he also might not notice because he isn’t looking for them . I have heard if you get sick it’s most likely with an outbreak. I don’t know . My question is can he get it from my razor? He doesn’t use it after me because he takes showers first. Like I said I used it once in 4 weeks . He doesn’t know my status . I am terrified . You did reassure me but when he said it hurt that scared the crap out of me . Please help scared I’m gonna ruin his life .

You can take antivirals and zoloft, yes.
I honestly do not believe that your son has acquired herpes from you by using your razor. The virus really doesn’t live on inanimate surfaces very long at all. Besides, if you only shaved the bikini line you were no where near where virus is shed from the labia or anus. It is not shed from the bikini area.
If he has pain urinated, it has absolutely nothing to do with your genital HSV 2 infection. But if his pain with urination keeps up, he should certainly have that checked out!

Thank u I am driving self crazy he went pee this morning a didn’t say anything . Would him getting sick the past 2 days also been with an outbreak ? I’m sorry I am just so scared I have been reading so much stuff . That’s all I do is read . I know people say yes kids can get it . I just have to do everything I can to protect him. . I do have a question about my symptoms the first 3 weeks were burning and itching . Not any lesions . On and off it comes and goes I do get a crawling feeling for a minute then stops I never itch down there I press on the spot then it stops . I do have all over body itching though I have had alittle bump on my ankle and wrist . My skin feels like it’s burning sometimes and bruised in some spots . Since I found out I have been isolating myself and very very worried and depressed I have lost weight I don’t eat . Anyway r these symptoms related in any way. Thank u

The symptoms of weight loss and depression and not eating are not in any way related to herpes except that you are sad and anxious about having herpes and those psychological states cause the other symptoms. I don’t know where you are reading that children can get genital herpes from their parents but it’s total BS. Yes, if you have a cold sore and kiss a child they could get HSV 1 and yes, if a mom has HSV 2 genitally and gives birth, there is a very small chance that her infant could get HSV 2. But children out of the womb getting HSV 2? Total bull. The itching and burning all over is not related to genital herpes.

It’s difficult to know what to make of the white bumps around the vaginal opening, but I would say that you may be looking at bumps that are completely normal for women. This does not sound like a herpes outbreak, no. But if you have concerns about these bumps or continued itching and burning, these are things you should have your clinicians check for you.

Hi Terry not sure if I have another question let me know if I don’t lol. I’m so confused on my results hsv2 positive at 5 so I have had it awhile never had symptoms except started 8 weeks ago burning itching for about 5 weeks no discharge at all have had 4 pap smears in that 5 weeks Dr. Couldn’t see anything finally got watery discharge Dr said bv no sores ever took antibiotics still burn and itch little if and on been going on constant for 8 weeks now had my discharge sent to lab came back negative for bacteria and yeast and this was before I started the antibiotics.no fevers just sore throat for a few days. I have a history of sores on my mouth when I was about 13 I had a horrible case of them and ever since I get them already twice a year sometimes just one sore sometimes 2 to 4 sores . People say they have genital outbreaks with period and stress I have horrible periods blood clots I have fibroids and an enlarged uterus . And I am extremely stressed out but still no outbreak .. my question is could my hsv2 be oral the ones I get on my mouth unfortunantly I was sexually active at a young age I can’t recall how I got my first outbreak at age 13 . I know you said genital herpes doesn’t persist for that long so I don’t understand if this is an outbreak with no sores and if my discharge came back with no bacteria found how do I have bv could that be a misdiagnoses . Please help me understand what to expect .

I’m not sure why on earth you have had 4 pap smears in five weeks. Are you sure about that? The itching and burning you are having may not be related to herpes. Not everything in the genital of people who have herpes IS herpes related. Herpes would not last for eight weeks; something else is likely going on there but I don’t know what it might be.

Most people (95%) with HSV 2 infection have it genitally. It is possible though unlikely that you have it orally but I would suggest the next time you get a cold sore, have it swab tested right away and ask for it to be typed so you will know for certain if it is HSV 1 or HSV 2. I don’t recall – are you positive for HSV 1 antibody or not?

Hi Terry u purchased more questions I have had 5 paps in 8 weeks went to several different drs for different opinions not one Dr had said anything about seeing hsv2. Only the last 2 times Dr has said bv . But my labs came back negative for bacteria . So I don’t understand how I have bv . So to answer your question I have not been tested for hsv1 .. I get outbreaks on my mouth occasionally. Since I was younger . None on my genital area . My husband of 13 years also gets cold sores never had genital sores either. So im wondering g if my hsv2 is oral or maybe the test was wrong somehow I have been reading about proteins in the blood tripping the test can u clarify . I would like to get a western blot how much are those . I just don’t understand why no outbreak in genital area but only mouth thank u

We can certainly arrange for you to get a western blot through the clinic. Depending upon the state in which you live, the price is either $250 or $315. If the western blot confirms your infection with HSV 2, it will not tell us where you have it, only that you do have it.
Has your husband been tested for HSV 2?

Hi Terri my husband has not been tested he actually gets cold sores in his lips and nose quite often he has never had any genital symptoms he said he doesn’t care if he has it or gets it. He loves me anyway . We talked about it because I was freaking out he said we both have cold sores all the time that people can see already… down there they can’t . Not a big deal . My husband is the type that doesn’t stress on anything . Lol so he is right can’t change it if I do have it so why stress . Still today have had no sores just bv that I was diagnosed took the medicine and a yeast pill doing better just little discharge . I’m not sure when I will have an outbreak or if I will . Have had it awhile according to my index value . So my question is do u think I will have an outbreak or are the symptoms of bv part of it ? I read on on other post that herpes does cause bv can u explain why that is . And can bv be dangerous if still won’t go away after medication. Or will it eventually go away on its own? Thanks

Sounds like your husband is being very sensible about all of this good for him
Now that you know you have HSV 2, you may start to recognize outbreaks, yes.
Wherever you read that herpes can cause BV, it is wrong. Herpes has nothing to do with BV, that is an imbalance of the flora in the genital tract of women. The standard opinion is that it should be treated with either oral or intravaginal medication.

Good morning so I went to the Dr today one of the drs that I saw before who said she saw no signs of herpes in my vaginal area told her I tested positive she seems to think I may have it orally seeing as how I only get sores on my lips . Either way I am doing well living with the diagnosis wasn’t at first but now I’m thinking more rational now just think of it as no big deal I get them on my mouth already . Could have worse things. So I’m waiting g for a sore to pop up on my lip so I can get it swabbed . So if I was to have hsv2 orally my question is my 16 year old son does get cold sores as well if I gave it to him when he was younger would it be considered hsv1 or 2 for him if mine is hsv2 orally or is it typed 1 or 2 because of the location. I’m going to have his next one swabbed as well . I really wish I could know where I have it . Ugh thanks Terry

I seriously doubt that you have HSV 2 causing cold sores. I can’t say it is impossible but highly unlikely. When you do get it swabbed the next time you get a cold sore, try to get a PCR swab done rather than a culture – far more sensitive. And let me know if you wish what the results are. If your cold sore swab tests positive for HSV 1, I don’t think your son needs to have a swab test done.

Hi Terri it’s been awhile I know I have 2 questions left but not sure witch account I have 2 because I could not log into the other . So please let me know . So I have been doing OK the past couple years until a month ago I was diagnosed with adenomyosis having slot of pain . Noticing more vaginal symptoms . So my main concern is because of this new diagnoses also my uterus is enlarged pushing on other organs is the trauma possibly going to cause more outbreaks . Can it effect the nerve of were my virus is . Also I’m going to have a hysterectomy soon will that trauma cause more outbreaks . I understand if u can’t answer that . I’m kinda just referring to trauma to awaken my virus if that makes sense. Any help would be great thank u

Sorry to intrude on this post but it won’t let me post a new question…

So, I recently just tested positive for hsv2 at an index of 1.54 through quest diagnostics with Dr. Michael Davies. After speaking with him and several other Drs everyone seems to be quite sure it’s a false positive after I describe to them what’s going on. I wanted to ask you as well as your highly respected and another opinion never hurts. So, I have been having irritation on my penis for at least a couple years now and I’m just now getting tested as I ignored it. My symptoms are irritation and redness and a burning feeling in my penis (not when I urinate). I ONLY have symptoms of any kind after sex or masterbating where it becomes irritated, red and it stings. I NEVER have bumps or blisters either. It will get ashy and flaky like dandruff right where the penis begins at the pubic hairs also. My penis also gets dry, ashy and flaky as well. From what every dr I’ve seen says it looks like bad skin such as dermatitis or yeast of some sort but none see hsv2. My question to you is what do you think? Are you on board with them from what I’m saying? My last possible exposure was 10weeks ago with a woman who is positive but wasn’t actively having an outbreak and I wore boxers and a condom and literally was so nervous it only lasted a few minutes or so but 10 weeks later I test positive at 1.54. I will also say I do have hsv type 1 orally unless it is type 2 orally Bc I do get cold sores 1-2 a year. I have also had chicken pox which I’ve heard and read those could throw the test off. I definitely would like your opinion. Thanks so much in advanced!

The CDC STD treatment guidelines on this issue say that you need a confirmatory test and it should be done 12 weeks from any possible exposure. The statistics on this say there is an 85% chance that this is a false positive. So yes, I agree but I would do the recommendation and get the western blot from the University of Washington.

Ok, thanks I greatly appreciate it! I know you can’t give absolutes but what is the likelihood of only testing a 1.54 If I truly had it 10weeks post possible exposure and the fact I had chicken pox before and also having type 1? I would just think my number would be higher 10 weeks after possible exposure if I actually it especially testing in the low positive range. Just wondering you thoughts on this exact scenario. Thanks you!!

For Scaredstr8: At 1.54, there is an 85% chance this is a false positive.
