Thank you all for such a great resource!
I’m new to all this. I’m a male with no history of being exposed to any STI. I recently began seeing a woman who disclosed GHSV2. She has not had an OB in over 5 years and takes daily antivirals. If she is not experiencing an OB, what is the risk level for her transmitting to me if I perform oral on her without a barrier?

      Thanks in advance.

The risk is quite low but not zero, I’m afraid. There are great panties around now that allow you to perform oral sex on her without the risk of transmission to your mouth. Here is the link: https://mylorals.com/products/lorals-for-protection-all
if you decide that you want a barrier between your mouth and her genitals.

Thanks, Terri. If someone does contract OHSV2 in a scenario like this, what is your take on the likelihood of contacting GHSV2 from the same partner down the road? I’ve seen some opinions that indicate OHSV2 will prevent (a strong word, I know) GHSV2 from happening. If that is the case, and I’m not promoting this idea, then what would keep people from strategically going the oral route in order to mitigate the genital contraction?

Further, is it true that OHSV2 is not as likely to spread as OHSV1?

We do think that once you get HSV 2 in one location, you’ll not get it in another location, so in essence, oral HSV 2 is kind of a vaccination against genital HSV 2. Oral HSV 2 is shed far less often than oral HSV 1, yes.
