In January I(male) had sex with a SW (male) whom I later discovered had many unprotected encounters. My encounter involved unprotected oral sex twice and giving (top) anal sex with a condom. The next day I had a very sore throat which lasted a few days. From the second day onwards, I noticed a dull but light discomfort deep inside my genital region and a light white/clear discharge in my urethra in the mornings when I inspected.
I took an STI urine test around day 7-10. I also had a swab test from my urethra (dry at the time) to which the nurse looked at and said quote “I think I see some signs of infection” so prescribed me doxy and told me to take it for 7 days whilst I await the urine results… The doxy didn’t do much for my discomfort feeling but the light discharge did clear sometime during this period.
Approx 20 days after my encounter I received my urine sample results: NEGATIVE. I was very anxious at this point because I was convinced I had caught an STI like Chlamydia or Gonorrhea so I was expecting a positive result. I was now convinced I had caught Herpes because there couldn’t have been any other explanation
This anxiety coincided with sharp, very noticeable tingle sensations on the right side of my penis shaft (near the base) skin and part of my right scrotum. I kept having this daily tingle/burning/sting sensation up to this present day today 7 months later.
Unhappy with my negative Urine STI sample but tingle symptoms, I went to another clinic in my city and received another STI test which included several other bacteria strains none of which were positive (1.5 months after encounter).
(3 months after the encounter) I took the IgG & IgM blood test which came back NEGATIVE for both HSV1&HSV2. 7 Months after I took another HSV blood test which came back NEGATIVE again.
My question is: do you think I’ve caught HSV and is that the cause of my almost daily tingle/burning/sting/cold sensation on the right side of my penis shaft/scrotum?

Dr Terri, can I add that my stinging/burn/tingle sensations are always in the same locations (right side of penis shaft mostly and sometimes right scrotum skin) which I suspect could be due to the point of exposure from saliva?
The sensation lasts about a second each time, feels like a zap, and occurs a few times a day. I notice it is more pronounced on days I am under stress, days I’ve had Coffee/Chocolate, and days after sex/masturbation. Other than this, I cannot pinpoint an exact cause such as sitting, lifting or doing anything to cause it. It just happens randomly when I am not even thinking about it at all.
If you don’t think this is HSV, can you please provide your thoughts on what other causes this could be and if you’ve come across any previous patients with an identical case like mine before?
Kindest regards, thank you.

Given no sores, this doesn’t sound like herpes to me.
So many people report tingling and zapping feelings in the genitals – the vast majority test negative for HSV . I wish I knew what was causing these symptoms, but I really just don’t, so sorry.Terri
