When is tingling a sign of genital herpes, and when is it a sign of something else? For the past couple of months I have occasional tingling in the groin region, on my left side, right in the fold of skin where the upper part of the thigh meets the abdomen. Whenever I exert myself physically, it comes on, and can last anywhere from 1-4 days. It feels like something is crawling on my skin, and it is always in that same groin fold. There are never any other symptoms, like blisters or redness, and the skin looks completely normal throughout the duration of the tingling. What could it be?
People ask a lot about tingling. People with herpes can get a sensation that I would describe more accurately as crawling under the skin. This is the virus reactivating on the nerve. But tingling by itself without a diagnosis of herpes or lesions would be more likely some other kind of either nerve compression or skin condition that effects the underlying nerves. The area you describe is prime for fungal conditions, though you are not describing any skin changes. It could also be nerve compression from the physical exercise you are doing. But without lesions or an accurate diagnosis of herpes, I would not attribute tingling to herpes – that would be way out in left field, I think.

I forgot to mention: I have been diagnosed with intertrigo and folliculitis, which frequently show up in my genital region on both sides. Could either or both of those be causing the tingling? It doesn’t seem like those two conditions are usually associated with tingling however…
Intertrigo just refers to inflammation in the fold where the leg meets the body, the area I believe you are describing. That word does not specify a cause, just describes a condition. Inflammation could certainly be associated with tingling, yes. I have never seen people have tingling with folliculitis, no.
