I’ve had HSV1 (oral) for over 30 years now. My new girlfriend has HSV1 (genital). What, if any, is the chance of me getting HSV1 on my genitals if we have unprotected sex?
Once you have HSV one infection in one location on your body, it’s highly unlikely that you would require it in a new location. In addition, HSV one genital infection is associated with a very low shedding rate of the virus, and even if you didn’t have HSV one orally, it would be really unlikely that you would acquire this from her through intercourse.
