Hey Terri, I tested “positive” for HSV2 with a .96 index value and a negative supplemental IGG test. I kind of furthers it had to be a false positive considering I never had any symptoms and it’s so low. I tested again a week later and it returned back negative. I feel like I should’ve waited longer but my anxiety was definitely getting to me.
My question is should I get the western blot to confirm this? It’s been around 11 to 12 weeks since my first sexual encounter with my most recent partner. I have had 2 partners this year in all and they both decided to get tested. Waiting on the results of one and the other came back negative for hsv2 but positive for HSV1 with a value of around 40. Not sure if it was IGG or IGM but it was through labcorp so I’m assuming it was IGG. We’ve been dating since around July 19th, so like I said earlier it’s been almost 12 weeks since we’ve been intimate.
Of course I’ve had zero symptoms orally or genitally and she’s never had any symptoms in her life. I’m curious if I should really even be worried about her hsv1 spreading to me at all since her value is so high? It can’t be a new infection right or am I wrong? Doctors have gave me too many differing opinions and I’m just really confused.

I meant to say June 19th in stead of July.

0.96 is not positive, it is barely equivocal. I don’t think you need a western blot

If your current partner has HSV 1, with an index value of around 40, she definitely had it a while. And you could possibly get it, most by receiving oral sex if she has it orally.

Not sure if I have one more follow up question, but if she takes preventive medication cause she wants to. Will that decrease the chance of transmission to me. Even if she doesn’t are the odds low or it just depends?

      Medication as in antivirals

Taking daily antivirals will likely reduce the transmission of HSV 1 though we don’t have as much data on that as we do for HSV 2. The medicines are effective against HSV 1 and well as HSV 2. The odds of transmission to you receiving oral sex are likely higher if she is NOT taking medication
