Hi, my boyfriend and I both have HSVII. We had sex. He gave me oral sex, we had intercourse, then I gave him oral sex and we kissed a lot without washing our genitals or using mouth wash in between any of it. Turns out I had an outbreak during this time. There was no broken skin but there was a large bump in my genital area which got more irritated and larger from the sex. Question – can he end up with herpes sores on or in his mouth? Will I end up with herpes sores on or in my mouth? Is he at risk for encephalitis or meningitis? Please help! I’m terrified. Thank you.
I think you are home free. Once a herpes infection is well established (4 months or longer), getting the same virus in a new location is almost unheard of. We do not discourage our patients from having any kind of sexual contact once both are infected with the same type of herpes (1 or 2). He is not a risk for encephalitis or meningitis any more than he ever was. Please do not be terrified.
Terri
