Hi Terri, If I had an established HSV1 infection, and my partner contracted HSV1 genitally recently, after 3 weeks have elapsed from the initial outbreak, and the sores from the initial outbreak are clear, if we are both taking preventative doses of antivirals like valacyclovir is it possible for me to then contract the genital hsv1? and likewise her? It seems extremely “unlikely” from what i have read but i am trying to determine just how “unlikely” it is or is it impossible? It seems borderline impossible from my reading but figured you would have this answer. I am a male, she is a female.
If its impossible than i suppose there is no issue. However if it is possible, how likely is it given the history mentioned and the fact we would both be taking antivirals? Is it possible her to then later get an oral infection of hsv1 if she was exposed to it within the first few months of having it genitally?
Hi i’ve seen a bunch of responses to other questions but wanted to make sure this was seen? i dont see a response?
Hi, are you getting my messages? I noticed many threads replied to yesterday but not this one?
Yeah she hasn’t replied to me either.
I don’t have a percentage of risk of you acquiring this in a new location but I can tell you that in 40 years of practice, I’ve only seen this happen once and I’m not even positive about that one.
Terri
