If it has been one year since diagnosis of hsv 2 via swab but 2 years since acquisition and no breakouts since initial last July 2021 and on daily meds of 500mg – what are the realistic chances of transmitting to a man both with and without contraception (condoms)?
Would doubling up on meds days before becoming intimate provide additional protection against transmission? And, what is that percentage?
So you’ve been infected for two years, meaning you are shedding virus less often than when you were first infected. We don’t have transmission data broken down specifically by the duration of infection. We only have grouped data about the transmission. So in established sexual couples, the risk of transmission having sex about twice a week with no intervention is about 4% per year – condoms reduce transmission by 65% and daily antiviral medication reduces transmission by 48% so you can do that math. Condoms clearly help but the risk is already a bit low.
