Hello, I hope you are well. I apologize for asking the same question I’m sure hundreds of people have asked but I’d rather just ask in my words as I am going a little nuts over here
I am newly diagnosed hsv2. My first OB was 2 months ago I had flu symptoms 3 weeks before sores so possibly almost 3 months ago.
I have had unprotected sex since the flu symptoms and 2 days before the bumps ( looked like scratches ) so I assume I was pretty contagious..
I also had unprotected sex about 10 days after cuts were healedI feel like this is a non judegement zone but I feel the need to clarify that I got tested immediately after I saw the cuts. My doctor lost the swabs but told me the flu symptoms were unrelated because they happened 3 weeks prior and she was 99.99999999% sure it wasn’t herpes. So I believed her.
I got a second outbreak 4 weeks later 12 hours after a Laser hair treatment. I got swabbed immediately but it took 2.5 weeks to get the swab back because it was new years and health Canada was closed for 5 days
Anyway back to the questions.
I’m taking 1000mg of Valtrex daily with 1000mg lysine plus a ton of minerals to boost my immune system
I am scared sh*tless I have transmitted it to two people during this time. One of which is my partner I have just gotten back together with that I’m scared to tell ( I know I have to)
Question: id like to know the % of transmission from female to male on suppression Valtrex with no condom use. No sex during outbreak I know Valtrex lowers it 50% but 50% of what does that mean 50/50 chance every time I have sex without a condom he’ll get it ?
Question 2. How long do I need to be on Valtrex before this 50% kicks in ( I’m taking 1000mg a day )
Question 3. Does shedding have any symptoms that I could know these dangerous days are happening? Would I feel it happening? Or is it a silent time bomb.
Essentially I’m trying to figure out if I’m going to infect every man I touch on every encounter
Thank you

I believe we talked, is that correct?

The transmission rate from an infected female to an uninfected male having sex about twice a week, no symptoms, on Valtrex, about 2% per year More sex, more risk.
Question 2. How long do I need to be on Valtrex before this 50% kicks in ( I’m taking 1000mg a day )
5 daysQuestion 3. Does shedding have any symptoms that I could know these dangerous days are happening? Would I feel it happening? Or is it a silent time bomb.
Shedding can happen both with and without symptoms so it can happen when you are not feeling anything, I’m afraid.Terri

Hi Terri! Yes we did speak and it was greatly appreciated! I had sent these questions before I called you so I apologize for the repetitiveness
I did confirm it was HSV2.
I appreciate the information provided! If I’m allowed to ask a follow up, is there a stat on the rate of shedding without blisters? I think I’m just trying to get a feel on how contagious I am on an average day. I read in the handbook it was 30% I assume which includes days with lesions.
Valtrex lowers about 50% ? ish I think so I’m trying to tell myself 15% probably more because I’m a newbie.I’m very afraid of this diagnosis so I’m just trying to fill myself with stats and knowledge so I am able to discuss it but also feel more in control by knowing the risk of being sexually active
Thank you so much for everything

For someone who is actually infected with HSV 2 but has zero symptoms, the shedding rate is 10% of days (so 10 out of 100 days).

Do you mean zero symptoms as in no lesions or less obvious symptoms at the time
Or zero symptoms as in someone that has never had an outbreak ( that they know of ) or hasn’t had one in years I guess that’s an asymptomatic person?
For myself, I had 2 outbreaks exactly 1 month apart nothing since is 10% still the case for me ?
Thank you!! I’ll purchase some more questions if I need I really appreciate you.

I mean as in no symptoms at all.
If you’ve had outbreaks, you will shed on about 20% of days – so 20 out 100, on average.Terri
