A child, with a new coldsore, hugged my child and pressed her face against hers this week. She doesn’t know if their mouths came in contact and she said she pushed her mouth against her ear. I’m pregnant and have a new baby on the way and a 1 year old. What are the chances of my 5 year old getting a coldsore from this encounter? How many days should I worry that she will develop a coldsore.
Thank you.
I think it is really unlikely. You should observe for symptoms for about 10 days and if any sores develop, take your child in for an HSV PCR swab test.
