Hi, thank you for this forum. I’m worried sick and need a professional opinion.
I was unaware that I had an early onset cold sore in the corner of my mouth. There was also a small cut-looking scar on my top lip and I’m unsure if it was a cold sore or just a cut.
I came home and my mom offered me a bite of her food, which traditionally is given from her hand to my mouth. I took two bites, and can’t remember if she got any of my saliva on her hands or touched my lips. I don’t think she touched the corner of my mouth where the sore was present but my anxiety is getting the best of me.
If she continued eating after this, is it possible she can get the cold sore virus from feeding me?? I’ve seen the need for skin to skin contact, but have also seen that straws and silverware can spread it, so I’m an anxious mess.
Hi Terri. Just bumping this.
I don’t feel that there is any real risk of transmission in the situation that you describe. I’ve yet to see anyone acquire HSV 1 from sharing food or drinks. I think you can stop worrying about this.
Terri
