Hello Terri. Hoping to get your insight.
I am HSV1 and 2 NEGATIVE via WESTERN BLOT.
My husband gets cold sores, and we are usually very careful about not kissing when he has one. However, the other day he had developed a small cold sore and without thinking, I kissed him twice. I had an ingrown hair by my labia the next night and I scratched at it. I’m a nail biter and I’m worried that if I did get infected the night before that I might have got shedding virus on my finger and then transferred it my genitals by touching the ingrown hair and my labia. Is this possible?
If I don’t develop any symptoms on my lips within 2-10 days, is it safe to assume that I probably didn’t get infected?
Also, I want to ask you about a bump I have. I think it’s a boil but want your opinion. The bump is below my vagina on my lower butt cheek, almost where my panty line is. It kinda looks like it’s under the skin and is red and I can’t see any blistering or ulceration. I applied some Benzoyl Peroxide to it and the only changes with it, is that it seems to have gotten smaller, but is still a little tender and no head has developed. Does this sound like herpes to you? Or am I correct in thinking that this is a boil?

The bump does not sound like herpes to me, no.
And yes, if you don’t develop any symptoms by 10 days, I think infection is really very unlikelyTerri

Would you mind answering my question about the finger situation in the first paragraph? I’m sorry if my question wasn’t clear.
Also, tonight my husband and I had sex, no oral. His cold sore is healing/scabbed over and just a tiny red dot now. He kissed me around my waist.
I know the skin is to thick for virus to penetrate there, but what I’m worried about is that I took a shower after and washed the area he kissed with body wash on a washcloth. I then used the same washcloth to clean my genitals, if there was any lingering virus on my skin from where he kissed me, could I have infected my genitals by using the same washcloth I washed that area with?

Sorry, I missed that part of your question. The finger situation presents no risk of transmission. And neither does the kissing around your waist.

Terri, I had another concerning spot pop up.
*On my upper right outer labia, I had what felt like a lump the night of Christmas. I squeezed it and nothing came out at first , but a little hole formed. I squeezed again really hard and thick white pus came out followed by liquid that was tinted slightly red from blood. It still feels like there is a lump but a lot smaller and I can still barely see a little hole. It is redder than the surrounding area currently.
*Could this have been an infected herpes lesion since it had pus in it?
* I only clip my pubic hair and don’t shave it, so what could it have been if not herpes? A pimple perhaps?

this does not sound like an infected herpes lesion to me – that rarely happens. it could certainly have been a simple pimple.
What is your biggest fear about getting HSV 1?Terri
