I’ve had herpes for 30 years-contracted from my first boyfriend at 16.
I met my husband a year later. We’ve been together since. The only symptom he’s ever had are swollen groin lymph nodes We’ve always had a sex-except I am paranoid and have trained myself not to desire sex because I’m scared of him developing symptoms.

I had my daughter at 25.

My husband sometimes changed her diaper and applied diaper rash cream.I’m just scared he might have passed it to her genital area when applying diaper rash cream. He has touched my vagina with his fingers, so what if he gave herpes to her? I don’t think he’s ever had whitlow.

At first, my herpes was confined to the area between my vagina and anus, anus, and vagina. I never had symptoms anywhere else.

During this time, when my daughter was about a year old, I took her in the shower with me, with her naked body resting on my hip. I did not know at the time that herpes can affect the whole boxer short area.

10 years ago, I had a BAD outbreak that lasted three months. During this time, it spread from only my vagina and anal area to they very top of my butt crack, upper vagina, thighs, my leg area on both sides of vagina.

As she got older, we (my husband, daughter, and I)shared a bathroom for a year. I was so busy working and I got careless about bathroom cleanliness.

Do you think she got herpes as a baby from my husbands fingers when he applied the diaper rash cream?

Could she have gotten herpes from sitting naked on my hip in the shower? (I did not have symptoms there at that time)

Could she have gotten herpes from a toilet that was dirty?

      From a bar of soap?

Could she have gotten it from my husbands wet towel?

Could she have gotten herpes from sitting on our bedsheets that we had sex on in just her panties?

She is 21. She OFTEN complains of vaginal itching and it makes my heart stop. She thinks she just had recurring yeast infections. She was even once visually diagnosed with staph in her genital area.

First of all, I don’t think for one moment that this was a bad herpes outbreak. I think it was either a fungal infection or a bacterial infection but herpes doesn’t last for three months nor does it spread in the way that you describe it.

As she got older, we (my husband, daughter, and I)shared a bathroom for a year. I was so busy working and I got careless about bathroom cleanliness.

Your daughter did not get herpes from your husband’s finger when he applied diaper rash to her bottom. That didn’t happen and I would bet my life on it

      no

Could she have gotten herpes from a toilet that was dirty?
      no

      From a bar of soap?
      no

Could she have gotten it from my husbands wet towel?
      That is extremely unlikely

Could she have gotten herpes from sitting on our bedsheets that we had sex on in just her panties?
      no

I think you’ve been worrying about this for a long time and are just now bringing yourself to talk about it. Neither you nor your husband infected your daughter with genital herpes. This is just not how herpes is transmitted and I hope that somehow you can convince yourself of this truth. You are not the only mother who worries about this and I try to reassure all mothers who worry about this that genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection and it is not given to children through normal household activities.
