Hi Terri,
First I want to say you do Awesome work, and a lot of us out here are confused and upset. Thank You for All that you do!
Just an update, my long term partner was tested with a full panel done thru Labcorp. Everything was negative including HSV2 igg, but his HSV1 igg was above 45. He has never had any cold sores.
I have HSV2 (asymtomatic) only. I thought he gave me HSv 2, but I’m not clear if you can get HsV2 from HSV 1. We have not had intercourse since I learned of my diagnosis. I’m also on Valtrex i don’t have any symptoms, but I want to lessen the chance of him getting it. I have had burning after urination for almost 3 months, my gyno says I have Vulvar vestibulitis and it’s not related to the HSV 2. I had a question about oral sex.
If he gives me oral sex, can I contract his Hsv1 genitally and can he get HSV 2 orally?
You cannot get HSV 2 from HSV 1 or the reverse. These viruses are their own entities = they don’t change into anything else.
So he clearly has HSV 1 with that index value. He is still vulnerable to your HSV 2. What was your index value on that, by the way?
If he gives your oral sex, you likely will never get his HSV 1 but he could get your HSV 2 orally, but not likely, particularly with you on antiviral therapy.
Terri
My HSV2 index was 22, then a few weeks later was 18 then I started the Valtrex.
2nd question- in your opinion do you think Vulvar vestibulitis is caused by HSV2?
Thank You
Sorry, I think there was some confusion about the 2nd question.
Anyway with an index value of 22, I’m quite certain that you are infected with HSV 2.
So your partner is vulnerable to your HSV 2 but you are not really vulnerable to HSV 1. The use of condoms and daily antiviral therapy by you will reduce his risk of acquiring HSV 2 from you.
Terri
