Hello! I am hoping you can provide some clarity in interpreting my lab results. I had tested negative for HSV 2 IGG, Type Specific AB in 2017, 2019, and 2020. I was tested again on 5/10 and it came back with an index of 1.13 so on 5/20 I took the HSV 2 IGG, W/REFL HSV 2 INHIBITION through Quest. My results came back at 1.08 so my doctor said yes, I’m positive. On 5/26 a different doctor requested that same test and this time it came back with an index value of 1.00 and had a note saying the screening assay was repeated on a different platform as part of the inhibition test, and the result was negative; thus the inhibition result could not be determined. I had went to the ob/gyn back at the beginning of March for vaginal burning/itching/irritation/redness all over and I tested positive for a yeast infection. They did not think it was necessary to test for hsv2 at that time even though I asked. It was not until May that I got tested and came back with the low positive result. I was also tested for all the other herpes viruses in my 5/26 lab. Other Virus Results: CMV IGG >10.00 IGM 32.70; Herpesvirus 6 IGG 1:160; EBV Viral Capsid AG (VCA) AB (IGG) >750.00. With all that being said, is there any way I could not actually be positive for HSV2?! I think I want to get a Western Blot done and see what those results are. I just want definitive answers since I’m in such a gray area. My doctors say yep, you have been exposed at some point. I really want to be able to say I do not have it and can resume with my sex life as normal. My boyfriend who also got tested the end of may and he was negative. We first slept together a week after I had been told I just had a yeast infection and was given antibiotics. We had been having unprotected sex from then up till I got the positive HSV2 results in may. We have not slept together since. I just want reliable answers/feedback so I know how to proceed.
      Thanks!

The other herpes viruses that you were tested for (why on earth was that done?)
Your HSV 2 index value is very low and is likely a false positive. A western blot would certainly provide clarity for you and I would recommend it in your situation.
