Hello Terri, thank you for providing this resource.

I went for a routine well visit with my primary care provider. I have no symptoms but asked for an STI test, just to know my status, and the Quest HSV2 IGG test came out equivocal, at 1.07. A few weeks later I did another Quest HSV2 IGG, TYPE SPECIFIC AB test, which was equivocal, at 0.93.

I have not experienced any symptoms of herpes. I have felt some tenderness in my armpits occasionally, but no lymph node lumps. I wonder if that is just anxiety, or something else, like a strained muscle.

Here’s the timeline of tests, as well as my last sexual encounter. My sexual partner had no symptoms of herpes. I have had sex with her several times over the past few months, and neither of us have had any symptoms.

      April 22: Sexual encounter
April 24: Equivocal Quest HSV2 IGG, TYPE SPECIFIC AB, 1.07
May 17: Equivocal Quest HSV2 IGG, TYPE SPECIFIC AB, 0.93

What is the likelihood that I actually have HSV2? Should I disclose this situation to past sexual partners? Note that I have not had any sexual encounters since getting the equivocal result. I really don’t want to put anyone at risk.

      Thank you for your guidance!

I think the likelihood that you have HSV 2 is very small indeed. However, you tested too soon after your last sexual encounter for accuracy. If your partner most recently tests negative, then it is even more likely that this does not represent an infection.

Got it, thanks for the information. To clarify-

      1. Regarding transmission timeline, I also had sex with the same partner on April 1st. Does the clarified timeline below change anything in your interpretation?

      Clarified timeline is:

      April 1: Sexual encounter
April 22: Sexual encounter (same partner as April 1st)
April 24: Equivocal Quest HSV2 IGG, TYPE SPECIFIC AB, 1.07
May 17: Equivocal Quest HSV2 IGG, TYPE SPECIFIC AB, 0.93

      2. Seeing this timeline and results, should I get another IGG test, and if so, when?

Your testing was done a bit too soon for accuracy. I think you should consider retesting around June 15
