Hello. On June 15th I went to urgent care for a scratch I seen in vag area. Dr said it looked like a scratch but said she’d order a full panel. Got a call a few days later that I had antibodies for hsv 2(1.46) via quest. My pcp told me to Ignore it as I should have never been tested via igg and she did a vaginal Exam and saw no lesions. I then abstained from sex for 12 weeks and gyno ordered another igg and an igg with inhibition as quest recommended.
Went on 9/13 for lab work this time igg came back (1.50) but the inhibition test wasn’t able to be ran per my gyno due to
The low positive . But then seen this on the lab results per quest —-“IA The HSV-2 IgG screening assay was repeated on different platform as part of
the inhibition test, and the result was
negative;thus the Inhibition result
could not be determined. Most samples exhibiting thistype of discrepancy have initial HSV-2 IgG index values
of 1.10-3.00. If early HSV-2 infection is suspected, submission of another sample collected 2-3 weeks afterthis sample is recommended.”Does the above text from quest on results mean i tested negative on another platform for hsv2? But still showed on igg ? My gyno wants me to
Retest via igg / inhibition again but my pcp wants to order igm. Not sure what to do I
Just need clarity so I know how to move forward. Still abstaining from sex. But since I don’t know if this is a true positive or if it’s genitally or orally. I also have Bv but never have I had lesions or sores.
I get tingling sensation ever since I was diagnosed on my butt and mouth but not sure if I’m just overthinking. How can I move forward and not spread if I am positive. Any guidance is appreciated.Also- if I were to meet someone should I get on some antivirals ? Can I kiss them ?

The CDC says to never ever do an IgM test as there are tons of false positives on this test.
I think you are very likely not infected if the inhibition assay try was not able to be done due to a negative igGIf you really want to know your status, you could do the western blot for greatest clarity. I suspect that your doctor is unfamiliar with the herpes western blot test.
The IgG test and the inhibition assay can give conflicting and inaccurate results, compared to the gold standard western blotTerri

To clarify you’re saying that it’s very UNLIKELY that I am infected ?
My went ahead about did both igm / igg + inhibition tests per drs request
. Here’s my testing breakdown .
6/15 – IGG 1.46 HSV 2 / NEGATIVE HSV1
9/13 – IGG 1.50 HSV2 / NEGATIVE HSV1
9/13- “IA The HSV-2 IgG screening assay was repeated on different platform as part of
the inhibition test, and the result was
negative;thus the Inhibition result
could not be determined. Most samples exhibiting thistype of discrepancy have initial HSV-2 IgG index values
of 1.10-3.00. If early HSV-2 infection is suspected, submission of another sample collected 2-3 weeks afterthis sample is recommended.”
10/7 – IGM negative for both hsv 1/2
10/7 – IGG / w inhibition hsv 2 – still waiting results .What do you think ?

I think it is very likely that you are not infected, given those results. Sorry about the unclear response.

Update on Ig test – 10/13
*HSV 2 IgG Type Specific Ab —1.60 index
*HSV2 IGG INHIBITION,ELISA
The HSV-2 IgG screening assay was repeated on adifferent platform as part of the inhibition test, and the result was negative; thus the Inhibition result
could not be determined.
This was also on the result:::
Most samples exhibiting this
type of discrepancy have initial HSV-2 IgG index values
of 1.10-3.00. If early HSV-2 infection is suspected,
submission of another sample collected 2-3 weeks after this sample is recommended.
This assay is intended only for samples giving a positive index in the HSV-2 type-specific IgGscreening assay. A POSITIVE inhibition
interpretation indicates true HSV-2 specific
reactivity, whereas a NEGATIVE inhibition
interpretation suggests that the positive
screening index is falsely positive.Should I accept it or get western blot ?

Had you abstained from sex for 12 weeks when you got the second test on October 13 that said the inhibition assay could not be completed? if yes, then you should believe with a high degree of certainty that you are HSV 2 negative. If you still aren’t certain, I can help you get the western blot
