Around sept 6 of this year I had a one night stand of unprotected sex. Although he had no sign of anything I was still worried after the fact. About a week after that I got a yeast infection and even though I never had one before I had all the signs, no bumps or lesions though. I took a monistat one step and that cleared up all the symptoms within a day or so. I got a full STD panel 4 weeks after the unprotected sex and it came back with a positive IgM of 1.25 and negative igg my doctor told me I probably had herpes and I freaked out. I went back two weeks later per the doctors request and same thing positive IgM at 1.28 and both negative igg. He told me I probably didn’t have it but I should go back for retesting in 2 weeks and I’m very confused about this.
Would a first herpes outbreak be cured by a monistat one step in a day or so?
And should I be alarmed by two positive IgM tests in a row? And two negative igg?
I’m really uneasy about all these aspects do you have any advice? Or what my next step would be?
How long does it take for the igg to show up positive? I know you’ve said IgM and igg can show up around the same time… -

IgM tests should never be used to try to diagnose herpes. This is in the CDC STD treatment guidelines for 2015. They are have many false positives and are not type specific and this could easily be reflecting something else entirely. What you need are IgG results are those are negative. but they are most accurate when completely 12 weeks after a worrisome encounter. Please don’t test with IgM anymore and only IgG. New herpes infections do not clear up in one day – they take several days or even weeks.

So the fact that I had 2 positive IgM is meaningless? And that my yeast infection cleared up with the monistat is probably just a coincidence?

Yes, I would say that two very low IgM positives without a positive IgG is not diagnostic. It’s not that IgM tests are always wrong, but in my experience a low positive IgM is wrong at least 75% of the time. Now that you’ve started down the IgM path, I think you will likely want to follow up with an IgG 12 months later.

Should I take the yeast infection as a coincidence since it was cleared up by the minister?
Also I’ve had problems with my throat specially very sore throat and swollen glands. I’ve gotten these symptoms about 5 times and never diagnosed as strep. My doctor couldn’t really give me a straight answer as to why this was happening. Could this be a sign of either hsv 1 or 2?
I’ve never thought any of these things could be herpes but after the two positive igm tests and research im thinking they could be -

Again, herpes infections don’t clear up in a day so I don’t think that’s what was going on here. If you were the giver of oral sex to this person, then oral herpes is a small risk, yes, but small. I would think if your doctor thought these throat symptoms were possibly HSV he/she would have swab testing for that.
This was your final question on this thread.
