Hey! I’m getting tested next week to know for sure, but I do have a few questions about a past experience that I hope you can clarify.
I had a single encounter with a woman 18 months ago. She was on her period and we used a condom. About 2-3 hours after the encounter, I woke up and vomited – having no prior feelings of nausea. For the next day or two, I still felt nauseous, but didn’t vomit. I may have had additional digestive issues, but that was the extent of my symptoms.
Less than 48 hours after the encounter, I felt mostly better. I had no further symptoms of illness and I never observed anything in my genital region that would have been suggestive of herpes. I apologize if this is TMI, but I was masturbating quite frequently at the time and never felt anything painful.
Based on my understanding of HSV2 and having read your forum (1) even if I had contracted HSV2, the vomiting and digestive issues would not have been a symptom due to the timing. (2) The condom and one-time encounter presented a very low risk of contraction. Her period would not have been a factor, either. And (3) masturbating multiple times a day, I most likely would have at least felt herpes lesions if I had an outbreak.
Can you confirm my logic and understanding of the virus in this scenario? Thanks!
It is correct that nausea and vomiting is not a symptom of hSV 2. The condom would have been very helpful in reducing the risk of transmission. I would not agree that that frequent masturbation would necessarily trigger an outbreak. Nothing you’ve said here makes me concerned that your symptoms represent a new case of HSV 2.
Terri
