Hi Terri,
I recently went in for an std panel that included a hsv1 and 2. I have not experienced any symptoms of hsv2. My hsv2 igg came back 1.2 with a negative supplemental. I was told to get a confirmation test through Labcorp the next day which came back positive for hsv2 antibodies but with no index. I had not had a concerning sexual encounter recently. About 10 weeks ago I kissed someone but with no sexual activity and shortly after that I had sex with my ex girlfriend whom I had been with for over 4 years. She has not been with anyone else since we first started dating. Can you help me understand my results?
I only mentioned those two encounters because I was told that due to my negative supplemental test it was likely an encounter within the last three months. Also to clarify I’m confused because the confirmation test says “labcorp is discontinuing the immunoblot confirmation test because it doesn’t require a reflexive supplemental test to rule out false positives.” I’m confused because does that mean the first test I took with the negative supplemental test is more accurate than the type specific immunoblot confirmation test?
Yes, the first test you took with the negative supplemental is the one you want to rely upon. And that’s negative. so that’s very good. There is good agreement between people who get a negative supplemental from labCorp and a negative subsequent western blot
