Hello. About a year or so ago in October of 2016 I had an outbreak of lesions. It occurred on a Monday and I went in on a Wednesday. That weekend I was told I tested positive for HSV 2 based on the swab. I had been dating and sexually active (without use of condoms) for the past 8 years and had only one sexual partner. I was very confused as he never had a noticeable outbreak and had been tested when we first started dating. A week later my OBGYN said it wasn’t HSV2, that my results were unequivocal and that I had no antibodies for a new contraction. She told me to come in in about 3 months to verify the results. A year later in December 2017, I finally mustered the courage to get tested again. The results again were unequivocal. My boyfriend at the time tested about two months after and tested negative. I’m going to get tested a third time as I have a new sexual partner and don’t want to spread this to him. Do I have HSV 2 and it’s just not showing up? Is it possible to get herpes if the only partner I had tested negative from a blood sample? Can I pass it if it’s so low? Thank you so much for your help.
I think you mean equivocal. I’m a little confused – was the swab positive or negative. Can you get a copy of your result?
If you have only had one sex partner in your entire life and he tests negative, then there is a strong likelihood that you are negative, not equivocal. Equivocal is NOT Positive.
