Hi Terri,
I’ve had HSV2 for 1.5 years now. The breakouts don’t bother me. My issue is my Urethra.
About 4 months into my diagnosis, I began to feel sudden pangs within my Urethra caused by stress. To date they’ve continued. I now also feel occasional “moods” within my Urethra. Sometimes it feels normal, sometimes it feels like there’s activity happening in it, movement I can feel, which is a bit discomforting, sensations I can feel in it. I just feel “funky” down there. It’s weird stuff happening. Not what I’m used. I can feel activity.
Another way of describing it would be: You know the feeling of a pit falling in your stomach from stress? It’s exactly like that, but felt throughout my urethra for a matter of seconds. Sometimes, my urethra will just feel “under the weather” like there’s stuff going on down there. Even now, it pulses, it tingles, it reverberates in response to my stress. It feels raw and sore at times internally.
There is no discharge, there is no burning urinating. My doctor has run every std test, urethra swab, urine culture, everything came back negative.
I haven’t been sexually active since my HSV2 diagnosis 1.5 years ago. So with everything negative, and me knowing I have HSV2, I’m considering it would be my HSV2 causing me urethritis.
But after reading about it in your forums, you describe it as something painful, and unlike what I’m experiencing, which is what prompted me to reach out to you and ask you personally if you have ever heard of something like this, and perhaps, if you knew which route I show go about addressing it.
I’ve heard it could be nerve related, that would make sense, as again, it’s like a psycho-somatic reaction to my own imagination and stress levels I create from it. It’s kind of annoying.
My question is, have you heard of this before? Ever dealt with anything like this? Hopefully heard from someone experiencing it how they fixed it? Curious here.

I have not heard of this particular thing before, no. Have you seen a urologist about this condition? Have you talked to anyone about the possibility of interstitial cystitis? It really doesn’t sound herpes related to me but I cannot be certain. Have you tried taking antiviral medicine to see if it makes a difference in your symptoms?
