So I’m herpes positive, I have hsv 1 and 2. I’ve only ever had one outbreak on my genitals, never on my lips. I take valtrex occasionally, I haven’t taken it in about 3 weeks because I haven’t felt any outbreak symptoms. Today, I hung out with this guy, it was last minute plans. I took my valtrex, and an hour later I performed oral sex on him and that was it. He touched my genitals with his hand a few times, I believe he touched his own genitals a little bit later. Is he at risk for transmission? Is vagina to hand to penis transmission possible? My genitals never had direct contact with his genitals or his mouth

No, this does not present a transmission risk. May I ask how you were diagnosed with both HSV 1 and 2?

Okay I was so worried and anxious about this situation so it’s very relieving to hear that from you.
I had unprotected sex 6 months ago and got tested 5 months ago and I came back positive for hsv 1 & hsv 2. Is it possible to have hsv 1&hsv 2 genitally? I believe I don’t have anything orally, I’ve never gotten cold sores on my mouth & I share drinks with my friends and nothing has ever happened to them

It is very very unlikely that you have both viruses genitally. If you index values on the HSV 2 were less than 3.5, you should get a confirmatory antibody test. There are false positives on this test.

so i probably have something orally but I’ve never had a cold sore. But I kissed someone and gave them oral sex, what is the transmission risk for that? And I don’t think this helped at all I took valtrex an hour before this happened

You can acquire HSV 1 from kissing, yes, and it is possible to acquire HSV 2 orally but rare. Are you saying you have never had intercourse?

No, I’ve had intercourses which is how I got HSV1&2. But my most recent experience (my first one after getting hsv) , we didn’t have sex, we only kissed and I performed oral on him. I’ve never had an oral outbreak before so should I be worried about transmitting the virus to his genitals? I’m really worried about viral shedding.
