Hi, thank you for this resource, I have GHSV contracted from my husband, swab test positive waiting on blood test. My husband gets cold sores he didn’t have one the day we had oral sex the next day he had a cold sore so I am assuming my test will come back as HSV1, but then he confessed that he cheated on me 10 years ago as a one night stand and only wanted to tell me in case it comes back as GHSV2, he only has symptoms orally. If it comes back as GHSV2 would it be possible for it to be from someone 10 years ago and we have been having sex for 10 years since and I have never had an issue or is he lying to me and has had another partner recently?

And if it is GHSV1 can we have sex without me giving him back HSV on his genitals since he already has it orally? He is getting tested to confirm which one he has as well.

      Thank you for your help

From your report, this is very likely HSV 1 infection.
A one night stand 10 years ago was not likely to result in an HSV 2 infection but it is not impossible.
The swab test should have been typed – it wasn’t?
If this is a new infection, the blood test may not yet be positive. If possible at all, call and ask that the swab test be typed – they may still have it.

And if it is HSV 1, yes you can have sex without fear or him getting it genitally. is that 100% certain? No. Just highly highly unlikely
