Hello.
My partner recently transmitted hsv1 from his mouth to my genitals. He was asymptomatically shedding we believe. We have been together 3 years, so it was a shock to get it now. I have read that I can’t transmit it back to him or to his genitals now. I read that it stays where your first outbreak was. We are in a committed relationship and older. We were worried about having to use condoms. Is it true we can continue our sex life and not worry that he will get it genitally now? Or, that I won’t get it orally now that I have it genitally?
Thank you.
Hello there. I think I’ve been overlooked as someone who posted after me has a response. I’m anxiously awaiting a response. Thanks so much.
Once you have HSV 1 in one location, it is extremely unlikely that you would acquire a new infection in a different place. If I were in your situation, I wouldn’t give this a second thought.
In the very very rare event that he got genital HSV 1, it might be so minor he wouldn’t know and even if he did, HSV 1 rarely recurs or sheds. I also believe that the same principle applies to you acquiring this orally.
Terri
