› Forums › Herpes Questions › Western Blot Results!
Hi everyone,
I wanted to post my WB results here and to thank Terri for the incredible work that she does. I initially tested positive for HSV-2 3 weeks ago with an IgG of 2.37 and then 2.43 after the low positive serum was sent to the Quest Infectious Disease lab. However, when Quest attempted to do the inhibition assay, they tested the serum again on a different platform and it was negative.
The initial results were shocking because I’ve never had symptoms so the day I received them (literally the same day), I ordered my WB kit and scheduled an appointment with Terri to get the test done. Today, my results came back NEGATIVE for HSV-1 and HSV-2. This has been a truly harrowing experience but I am so glad to have discovered this forum and to have had the opportunity to work with Terri to get the confirmation done with the best test there is.
If you’re hesitant about your results, please do the western blot for peace of mind. It is 100% worth it. Terri, thank you for creating this community and for making expert help easily available to all those who need it!
Thanks so much for posting your results and your kind words. I hope this does encourage people who test positive but have no symptoms to get a western blot. You definitely don’t have to do it through me, you can work with your own providers to get this test, though sometimes, they are unfamiliar with the test and refuse to sign the lab order.
The IgG tests from both LabCorp and Quest are loaded with false positives, especially in the low positive range (1.1 to 3.5) but I’ve seen false positives with index values as high as 17.
Terri
