Western Blot Results:
June 2023
HSV-1: Indeterminate
HSV-2: NegativeSeptember 2023 (with paired sera)
HSV-1: Indeterminate (both acute & convalescent)
HSV-2: Negative (both acute & convalescent)Questions:
1) What is your professional opinion regarding my HSV-1 status?
2) The initial test results in June gave 3 possible reasons for an indeterminate result. Can you briefly explain what each one means, and why or why not they apply to me?
a) During seroconversion
b) Due to a nonspecific immune response
c) As an artifact of blood products use3) Is there any better testing above and beyond the WB at this time?
4) I had mentioned in a prior post that I would like a formal letter from you, which I still want. If possible, I’d like to have a phone call prior to the letter to discuss some of the things I’d like addressed in it (if a call is not an option, then email will work). I’d like to avoid using the video portal as I don’t want to share personal information on there or be on video. I have tried to reach you through the email and fax options on this site with no success. I will compensate you for everything. How can we get in contact outside of the portal?
Thank you.

Hi Terri,
Can you please respond to my post from 9/21?
Additionally, I had a previous profile and purchased additional questions, but was not able to post. I contacted your team several times and did not receive a reply.
Thanks.

I am so sorry that you’ve reached out without success. I’ve not received anything except your previous post.
I’m not sure what you want from me exactly. It sounds like you did not do the blot through me, is that correct? If you didn’t, then you should seek a letter from the provider with whom you did the test. I will answer your questions here.
1) What is your professional opinion regarding my HSV-1 status?
My opinion is that you don’t have HSV 1.2) The initial test results in June gave 3 possible reasons for an indeterminate result. Can you briefly explain what each one means, and why or why not they apply to me?
a) During seroconversion – this means you are in the process of going from negative to positive. Two indeterminate suggest that this is NOT the case
b) Due to a nonspecific immune response
This is the most likely explanation for indeterminate. You most likely have a single antibody protein in your blood that is present in a person infected with HSV but is also present with other viruses.c) As an artifact of blood products use
This refers to that protein that is discussed above but getting it from a blood transfusion, as I understand it.3) Is there any better testing above and beyond the WB at this time?
No, except if you get a lesion somewhere you can have it swab tested.4) I had mentioned in a prior post that I would like a formal letter from you, which I still want. Fax options???
Again, did you do the blot through me? If yes, I would be willing to email with you about this. If not, you should work with the provider who ordered the test for you. Let me know.Terri
