Hi Terri,
In 2021 I had a severe sunburn. About a week after the sunburn I started to have painful urination, and a couple days later I started to notice brownish colored dots on genitals. These dots turned into sores that were extremely painful. I went to Doctor and had them swabbed. The swab test came back negative for HSV2. Doctor was still convinced it was hsv2 so I was put on Valacycovir. July 15th of 2023 I decided to start taking 1 G of valacyclovir per day. august 25th of 2023 I completed an IGG test. HSV1 levels came back at >50.30 (I have had plenty of cold sores in my life) and HSV2 level came back <.90
I often have discoloration on my penis head. Darkish brown spots.dry skin after ejaculation. Not due to friction. Maybe balanitis?
What should I do? Can Valacyclovir have an impact on hsv2 IgG levels but not hsv1?
If antivirals have impact on hsv2 IgG test, then why was hsv1 not low as well?
Thanks so much
Prior to the sunburn I had no symptoms of hsv2. No outbreaks or anything.
I wrote this post at like 3am and left out a couple details. I got the sunburn late March of 2022, not 2021. I took 7 days worth of Valacyclovir, and did not take anymore Valacyclovir until July 15th 2023. I have taken Valacyclovir from july 15th 2023 until yesterday (august 28th 2023) when I got my results back
A sunburn has nothing to do with herpes – I think there is some confusion there.
Was there some sort of sexual contact around the time you got the very painful sores in the genital area? Both HSV 1 and HSV 2 can cause genital sores, so with your high HSV 1, the sores could certainly have been HSV 1. That is usually acquired from receiving oral sex. The Valtrex you’ve taken would not impact your antibody testing as it was taken for a longer duration far from your first symptoms.
Have you ever in your life had cold sores on your lips? If yes, they could account for the high HSV 1 result.
Herpes also does not cause any skin color changes such as those that you describe.
Terri
