      Hi Terri,

I saw someone in November. We had sex 6/7 times within 11 days. 1st time being Nov 1st and last time being Nov 11th. We used condoms at all times. However I remember finding a big round pimple/lump on the far right side of my perineum while showering on Nov 16th. I didn’t notice it earlier or felt any itching/burning in that area before that. I didn’t looked at it bc I was scared but it was firm, perfectly round and seemed to be filled with pus. I tried to scratch it in the shower but I wasn’t capable bc it was quite big so I left it alone. I’ve put my acne cream (adapalene/benzoyle peroxyde) on it after showering. The next day at work the pimple hurt a lot, I could feel it rub against my pants – I thought it hurt bc it was irritated since I tried to squeeze it the night before. When I came home later I’ve put more cream on it, and same the next day – it was getting smaller and smaller and I don’t recall the pimple oozing/scabing – it just disappeared within a few days. I don’t recall having other symptoms. Also 2 weeks earlier (Oct 31st) I went to get waxed.

His STD status is unknown but he said he doesn’t have anything. During sex he would go deep and maybe the condom didn’t protected me completely. When I called my doctor to do an STD test, she told me I was low risk since I used protection and didn’t seemed concerned about my pimple. (It was a phone consultation bc of COVID. She just sent me get a chlam/gono test).

      1) What are the chances of this being a BO? If it was a BO would my acne cream worked on it?
      2) Did the pimple hurt because I played with it or because it was herpetic? (Even tho I didn’t felt it before discovering it?)
      3) Would the BO be more near my vagina lips where contact was probably made instead of ”thick” skin like my inner but? I remember sitting ”on” his scrotum for a few seconds 1 time and also his bare penis touching my buttocks. What are the chances of having being contaminated at this moment?

      Thank you!

The bump could be so many things, normally a herpes lesion would open and ulcerate. This didn’t.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t know the answer to that.

I think the chances of transmission with that particular encounter is low because the buttocks skin is too thick for virus to enter. It needs very thin skin to get in.

If your doctor won’t order the test and you are worried, you can do an IgG test online yourself. being seen when the bump was there would certainly have been preferable.

      Hi Terri,

Thank you very much for your response!

I have read on this forum that someone else also got a single bump that didn’t hurt or ulcerate and just disappeared on its own while using abx ointment. How is it common from your experience? In my case would the bump (if it was herpetic) would respond to anti acne cream?

If it was a herpes breakout, would it have been more near my vagina or on my vulva (where contact could have been made) instead of my inner thigh? I never had a HSV1 breakout. So if it was to be HSV2 wouldn’t that 1st breakout be more severe?

Sorry I forgot to mention that apparently this person was tested positive for HSV2 (the one with the single bump)

If you were having a primary outbreak, the lesion would have been in the genital area.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve never had an HSV 1 outbreak. If you are infected with HSV 1, and contracted HSV 2, the outbreak would be minimal.
I seriously doubt that herpes would respond to acne medication.
