Hi Terri thank u for the service you provide. About 2 years ago started seeing someone dated about 2 years the first 8 months didn’t have sex . About 4 months ago started feeling weird in the vagina area itched really bad became red and irritated but that was it put cortisone cream was fine started developing a discharge Dr said it was bv she looked under microscope took medicine was fine no signs of blisters or anything about month later discharge again felt a small bump under my skin on my labia nothing ever came above skin had a little sting in that spot every now and then went away for weeks now the same bump is back in the same spot doesn’t itch or anything had it looked at Dr said not herpes anyway was tested for hsv2 came back positive at 5 was not tested for hsv1 which I have always had get cold sores on mouth often. So apparently I have been infected for a while my question is at a number of 5 could I have picked up this infection within the last 16 months from this guy. I hear the first breakout is the worst.please help me figure out what to expect with a well established infection will I be getting a bad outbreak soon? I am starting antiviral soon but if I do happen to get sores can u suggest something to put on them . Maybe some of your patients have had success with . Thank u for you time

Yes, you could have been infected in the past 16 months for sure, or before that. At this point, there is no way to know when you were infected. It is likely that your outbreaks will be mild and may be unnoticed because the antibody that you have built to HSV 1 already helps keep the HSV 2 under control. My guess is that the bump under the skin could have been an outbreak but without a swab test of that specific spot it isn’t possible to know. I doubt that you will now get a bad outbreak. You’ve had this a while. we don’t recommend topical medicine to treat outbreaks any more, just oral medicine.

Thank u for your response just want to know if there is Any other way to transmit this virus in a non sexual way like kissing sharing drinks bedding what if there is vaginal fluid seeping through clothing and I sit on the bed or couch . Want to make sure as I have a 2 Year old nephew . I am the full time babysitter for him . That’s my main concern . Prior to my diagnosis we did share drinks and he takes napes with me as well . I have oral hsv1 I have never given that to him seems like that one would be more contagious . Any feedback on what not to do ? Thank u for your help. Have a blessed day

No, herpes is transmitted through sexual activity, not in the ways that you ask about. There is absolutely no concern about you infecting your nephew. And it doesn’t matter if the water is hot or cold, it is the soap in the laundry that destroys the lipid layer that surrounds the virus, causing it to fall apart.

Thank u for your answers I have another my body has been aching my muscles feel so sore all over my body and have itching for no reason vagina tingles here and there but no sores yet I came across cmv part of the herpes virus now I’m freaking out about that. Saw on line it is very harmful to children and is easier transmitted than hsv2 especially through saliva and sharing food . It says it may never show symptoms and to get tested . Would it have the same protein in the bloodwork as hsv2 .I have had hiv test hepatitis all negative . Just really scared for my nephew if I did have cmv would he have gotten it by now we have always shared food drinks kissed on lips ugh so scary . Any advice appreciated thank u

CMV infects most of the population and is normally not a worry unless the person who contracts it has an inadequate immune system. The blood test is completely different. I still don’t think you have any worries for your nephew.

Hi Terri I’m living with the fact I have hsv2 I have had symptoms of itching and discharge for about 5 months now no lesions that the drs or I have seen had bv took medication fine for a bit I’m so confused on what is going on I just don’t feel right my whole body feels weird I’m worried something else is wrong I have had tests done on just about everything all negative anyway my question is the HIV test I have had 2 rapid HIV test in the past 2 years and both negative does this mean really negative. I see other post on different kind of HIV testing what does the rapid mean . Am I safe to say I’m in the clear . I’m not sick or anything do get dizzy spells but I am anemic. I’m hoping the feeling I’m having in my body is just nerves and anxiety . And last I asked a Dr at planned parenthood to do a pcr swab and she had no idea what that was . My question is can I get a swab done on my vagina with no lesions to see if what I have been experiencing is a constant outbreak or to see if I am shedding . Or if my bv has returned . Oh my main symptom is itching but only at night while I’m laying down not during the day is this typical in an outbreak . Thank u for all your help you are truly a life saver

Yes, you can believe the HIV test results given the timing you state, for sure. We often do PCR swabs of the vagina in people who have no sores but they feel different. Sometimes they are positive and most times they are not. This is something you should discuss with your GYN provider – I’m surprised PP didn’t know about them. Hmmmm. Have you had a recheck to see if your BV is gone?
Wait – how are you posting on someone elses thread?

Thanks I have 2 threads I couldn’t log into my other account so made new one sorry. Well it’s a relief to hear HIV test is good . I was diagnosed with bv back in October before I found out about my hsv2 status took the medicine for bv seemed to be better Dr did swab sent to lab no bacteria no yeast that was around November . I’m going in next week for another bv test and gonna try to get swab also I can’t imagine an outbreak with no visible lesions would last this long but who Knows . Thank u for your response I believe I have one question left I will save it until I get results back . Thanks again

Hi Terri been awhile doing OK with my status some days are hard . Still scared once in awhile about infecting my nephew he gets red spots on his body once in a while doesn’t look anything like herpes I don’t think but I start to freak out he runs to me and hugs my leg I quickly push him off it’s horrible to have to live in fear like this I wish you would find a cure and you could charge people as much money as you would want up to thousands of dollars and I guarantee people would pay it haha anyway I’m wanting to know if it’s OK to go in a pool or Jacuzzi I take my nephew but I don’t go in as I’m afraid he will get it . If it is OK what about if I’m having an outbreak no lesions just tingling and itchy feeling and I go in a pool . I haven’t been swimming all summer because of this . Ugh I just want my life back . And just wondering why is Hsv2 so much more active than hsv1 I get a cold sore maybe once a year for about a week . I’ve been feeling hsv2 constantly since I was diagnosed last October . Will this subside soon . I feel so dirty and unsexy it’s been tough getting through this . Well thank u hope all is well with u . Please keep searching for a cure I have faith in you lol god bless

It is fine to use the pool or jacuzzi and he will not get herpes from you in this way. It doesn’t matter if you are having those pre-outbreak symptoms, either. This is a sexually transmitted infection, not one that can be passed to household members through water or normal household interactions. You can stop worrying about infecting your nephew now.
