I was told that I had GHSV2 about 4 years ago by a snyde dr. that took one look at me and knew very matter-of-factly that I was experiencing a herpes outbreak. The culture came back inconclusive and no blood tests were ever done, nor talk of treatment options. Two years ago, tired of having multiple flare-ups, I asked a new dr. for medication. She put me on Acyclovir. I didn’t notice much of a difference and after 6-9months, mentioned to my GP that I was still having outbreaks, not knowing this wasn’t supposed to happen on medication. He upped the dosage, I had more flare-ups. He then moved me onto generic Valtrex. I went about 3 months without an OB, then started having them again. He upped dosage, and again, I had about 3 months of relief. Then, Feb. of this year, my in-laws had to move in with us in our very tiny home. The stress gave me an OB that’s triggered about 5 more since then. My GP referred me to a gyno to work with. I’m on max Valtrex and just spent the last month with the worst so far. She did a blood test that came back today: HSV2 IgG 2.53. Both Dr’s keep saying “this doesn’t look/act like Herpes”. In all my OB’s, I’ve never been able to see anything. There’s just two spots that ever get sore, they’re itchy and hurt when I urinate, but that’s it. Could this be a false positive? Why am I resistant? What is there left to do? My dr. won’t put me on Famvir and wants me to stop the Valtrex but I’m afraid to. This is ruining my relationship, keeping me from living my life and even effecting my schooling! This dr. thinks there may be something else causing the OB’s but doesn’t know what. The 1st OB presented with a swollen gland and I just got another swollen gland last night for the first time since that first OB. I’ve quit smoking, drinking alcohol and coffee, eat really well, get regular exercise and meditate daily. Please help; I CAN’T LIVE LIKE THIS ANYMORE!

Why am I being ignored? People that posted AFTER ME have been answered already. I did not pay good money to be overlooked- I have two doctors already doing that. This shouldn’t count as an extra question, either, but my guess is it will.

It won’t count as another question – somehow this did not show up for me in order of posting and I have been ill, so I could have missed it also. I apologize for having you wait.
You definitely need a confirmatory test. You are in the low positive range and there is a good chance that this could be a false positive IgG result. You have had ample time off of medication to develop a sound antibody response if you actually do have herpes. I would agree that this pattern of outbreaks, while on suppression, sounds very odd and atypical. I can only imagine the stress of inlaws living with you in a small house, not matter how nice they might be!
You need a herpes westerns blot most certainly. We can order that for you through the clinic if you wish or you can contact the University of Washington directly for that test.
Please let me know what else you might need and again, my apologies for making you wait for a response.
