I had a few too many sexual partners last year after returning from overseas. Always with protection. Developed some odd penile skin issues and freaked out. Pencil eraser sized red patches with flaky skin. They would come and go. Immediately ceased all sexual activity and went and got tested for HSV. Had an Igg test done which was positive for HSV1 and negative for 2. Was relieved at the time because I’ve always gotten cold sores and tested positive for HSV1, never for 3. The skin issues continued the next couple months though so I got tested additional times from 3 different doctors with the same results. Even had one of the skin patches swabbed and result was negative. Had sex with someone I’ve been dating 2 months ago and got tested afterword just to be safe. HIV, HSV2 western blot, and RBR, all negative. In the last 10 days I’ve developed an ulcer down there which is not consistent with ANY of the previous symptoms. Am out of town in the field for work and couldn’t go to regular doctor. The Dr. Out here put me on Doxycycline to rule out a bacterial infection. I am concerned and at this point would just like some answers. Have been told that it’s hard to contract HSV1G if a person already has it orally. Is this true? Also would like to upload pics for professional opinion. Thank you.

How long was it between your last sexual contact and your negative HSV 2 test? Was the person you had dated for two months been tested for HSV 2?
You can post the picture. Did the doctor that you saw about the ulcer have an opinion about what it was? Did you have a swab test done of the ulcer for herpes?Terri

Had the Neg HSV2 test roughly 3 weeks after sexual contact. Unknown if person has or has not, Ulceration began 12 days ago as a small scab. Doctors opinion was something was there that had gotten secondarily infected. Unable to do swab test where im at. As of taking Doxy its scabbed up and healing.

I tried to post in order but had problems. The middle 2 are from 5 or 6 days ago. The bottom is from a couple days ago. And the top is current.

Three weeks is too soon for an accurate results, 13 weeks too soon.
This ulcer is very concerning to me, for sure. Where are you anyway that you cannot get a swab test of this ulcer right away?Terri

Should I go ahead and ask the Doc for antivirals?

you could yes, but if he thinks it is a secondary infection (which I am skeptical about) then he might not prescribe them. If it isn’t herpes you will excrete the medication unchanged – it can only work in the presence of herpes virus so you can’t really miss.
