I am a 33/m recently(Late night Tuesday, it is now Sunday) slept with a new partner. She has had HSV-1 both orally and genitally for 10 years. She told me she had an initial outbreak and then only one more during that period of 10’years. She takes suppressant valtrex daily. Her one outbreak was a time when she briefly stopped talking Valtrex. We used a condom for the penetration, although I briefly did perform oral on her without protection.
The next night(Wednesday) approximately 24 hours from exposure, I woke up with tingling in my legs the thigh, inside and front of leg as wel as outside going from waist to close to the knee, not the back of the leg. I have very little if any tingling in actual groin or genital region. It primarily is most active at night when I am not distracted otherwise.
The tingling is just on the right side and also will sometimes effect lower leg, and abdomen. It has not been very painful, not shooting pain but closer to the feeling of icy hot.
Also I have had shingles in the past(around 5 or so years ago) and the feeling is very similar.
The tingling has dissipated some but I have started to have some tingling around the mouth as well.(Started Friday night) it is off and on and again only when I am not distracted.
I am wondering if these are prodrome symptoms as I have seen no lesions and have no pain in the genitals nor do I have any burning sensation while I urinate. I have had malaise but primarily not sure if these symptoms are real or psychosomatic since she told me about her having HSV-1 before I had any symptoms.
I have heard/read Prodrome symptoms usually are only a couple days 2 at the most usually and I am on day 5 with no outbreak and they seem to be lessening.
Sorry for the Novel but just worrying and looking for any help from someone with insight.

An update I believe I have found a cold sore inside of my mouth, on my cheek. It is not painful at all but just noticed it. Wondering next steps?

Update: went to get the “lesion” looked at, the nurse/practitioner said it definitely wasn’t a herpes lesion.

Sorry to continue updating, but got a STD test (not for HSV because of lack of accuracy w/o lesions) and found out I tested positive for Chlamydia, the nurse/practitioner said that should be the culprit of the symptoms, but I don’t think the tingling can be explained by that.
Thank you for providing your insight, and this service. Truly helps as there seems to be a lack of really reliable information.

HSV 1 genitally is very very rarely transmitted through intercourse and since the partner was on Valtrex, that is also extremely unlikely. And herpes symptoms don’t show up in 24 from infection. Since about half the population has HSV 1, I’m certain you’ve kissed other people in your life who have HSV 1 infection. Have you actually ever been tested yourself to know if you might already have HSV 1?

When I got shingles they did a test for herpes then and I believe it was negative, but that was 5 years ago and also the sores where in my leg so I know the concern was genital herpes so I do not know definitively if I did test positive for HSV-1.
To my knowledge I do not remember ever getting cold sores but I also know people can be asymptomatic so long answer short is I do not know on prior HSV-1 status. As of today all symptoms have dissipated, tingling is virtually gone even with tight jeans and walking. Some tingling around mouth at times but with still no lesions I believe that could be my mind. I will probably still try and get the Western Blot 3 months from now or atleast some sort of testing.
Also went back and re-read the thing I thought was a lesion was a bite inside my mouth. So at this point I have had no lesions anywhere genitally nor orally. Just the tingling.
Thank you again for your opinion and expertise
