Hi Terri!
About 2 weeks ago I tested negative for HSV1. I’ve had HSV2 since 2011. But I’ve noticed some white bumps on my tongue/throat and canker-sore-looking sores in my cheeks. I often bite my cheeks and gums from anxiety so I never really paid any attention to these things before a situation with a recent partner. Their levels came back as a false positive. But were afraid I exposed them to HSV through oral sex. (You answered my questions previously). I got a mouth swab and it came back negative. I saw you mentioned that people should only get a test with levels and not just positive/negative. Could it be possible the swab test missed something? When the gyno swabbed my mouth, I did have mouth-sores present in my mouth due to a very stressful month. I don’t have health insurance so I am trying to find a place to get bloodwork done. The sores have been in my mouth for a while now that’s why I think they aren’t HSV with no scabbing. Does that even happen in the mouth? What do the sores/bumps look like in the mouth? I’ve been taking my daily suppressants up to 1000mg.
Thank you Terri for your help!
Your mouth sores do not sound herpetic to me. Once someone has HSV 2, they will almost never acquire HSV 1 subsequently. If money is an issue, and false positives are definitely an issue, I would advise you not to test for HSV unless you need the test to help put your mind at rest.
