      Hi.
A month ago i was diagnosed with hsv2. I was told i had low antibodies in the blood test, i forget the number but am going back for another round of blood work this weekend. But the swab test definitely showed hsv2. Today my boyfriend told me his bloodwork showed positive for hsv1. My doctors office told me that it is not posible for me to have been given the hsv2 from his hsv1 because they are two different viruses. Is this true? We have been together for almost 2 years now, have a baby together and i never had any symptoms until last month. How is it possible for it to just suddenly appear? All of the information I’m reading online is very confusing. Is it possible for him to have hsv2 and was misdiagnosed? He says he has never had an outbreak, just what appeared to be ingrown hairs. I’m beyond confused with this. Please help.

There are several things to consider here. Do you have any concerns that your partner has had another partner? If he has recently had another partner and acquired HSV 2 from them, he would not yet have antibody. When people newly acquire HSV 2, they have no antibody or little antibody, depending upon the timing of the test.

Alternatively, you could have had HSV 2 for many years and just found out you have it. Herpes is not normally included in prenatal testing but you could check and see if you were tested for herpes during your pregnancy. Eighty percent of people infected with HSV 2 don’t know they have it so it certainly possible that you have had HSV 2 and didn’t know it.

Please let me know what other questions you might have.
