Hi Terri, I have a 4 month old daughter I been really worried about the possibilities of her getting hsv 1/ cold sores…her dad gets them a few times a year and so does both of his parents. I’m extremely concerned that there’s a high risk of her getting it from them kissing her.

My boyfriend gave me Hsv 1 in the genital area while having no symptoms and no sores.
I’m really scared of the shedding, I took valtrex while pregnant to prevent it during the birth.

Is there a possibility that from the 3 of them kissing her in the face not mouth without a sore present or symptoms that she can get it ?? Can they pass it without one present.

Can they kiss her at all? Or should I tell them to just not give her kisses or put their face anywhere near hers.

She likes to put her hands in her mouth a lot and my in laws like to kiss her hands alot. can it be passed through them kissing her hands and her putting it in her mouth ??

They both don’t understand or even know that cold sores is a form of herpes they thought it was normal and just from stress I spoken to them once about it to be careful around my daughter but just recently my father in law had one and didn’t even inform us so we could be aware and take precautions.

If people kiss her little face but not on the lips or near the eyes and they have no cold sores present, I don’t see this is a risk for transmission. They should not be allowed to kiss her at all if a cold sore is present and I’m sure you can convey that message firmly but nicely.
