Hello. I am a 28 year old Black woman with a hx of 4 partners. My first was one time with a condom. My second was a long term boyfriend on and off for 10 years with and without protection, my 3rd was 4 sexual encounters (3 of which were unprotected) and the last was one time unprotected. I haven’t had sex in over a year and never tested positive for any STD. This test was ordered without my knowledge and resulted as negative for HSV 1 and HSV IgG positive at 3.97. I am shocked and scared and wondering if I should retest and exhaust all my options or accept the result per the physician an old past infection. I am so nervous and genuinely surprised and don’t know what to do. Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Although your result is a little higher than the usual low positive range, without any symptoms, I would strongly encourage you to do the western blot for clarification. I have seen many false positives in this range. BTW the CDC says never to include this test in screenings due to the high rate of false positive results.
Terri
