Hello. 7 weeks ago, I received a protected fellatio massage worker. The whole encounter lasted only about a minute or so and I did not notice any skin to skin contact and the condom was still intact. She removed the condom with either her hand or a tissue, I can’t remember. She did not appear to have any visible symptoms on her mouth and appeared to be pretty clean. I had shaved down to the skin the day prior to going to get this massage. A week later, I wore the same skin tight spandex underwear for the whole weekend and had exercised in them as well. After this, a rash had appeared on the outside of both sides of my scrotum. I went to have this looked at and I was prescribed bactroban for folliculitis, which seemed to have made the rash go away as it has not been a problem since then. Other than that initial rash, I have not experienced any other symptoms, other than the occasional tingle in the tip of my penis. I was tested 1-3 days after that rash appeared for everything, including an IgG for HSV-1 and HSV-2. Everything came back negative and herpes results both being >0.91 negative. I wake up almost every day with a slightly stuffed up nostril, which goes away after a couple of hours. I have also developed a very mild tremble in my hands that only I notice. I have been prescribed with Zoloft and buspar for my anxiety and since then, I have noticed random muscle aches in my legs and back, mostly. I think the drive behind all of this is the fact that I have a fiancé that I do not wish to lose.
A week ago today, I received a hand job from another massage worker. This was a stupid mistake that even I am unsure why I did. I was so worried about this encounter that I went back three days later and checked her hands and arms for any visible sores. There were none and she denied to having any sort of a disease. The only thing I found weird was that she had very wrinkled hands and appeared very young. I just assumed that this was due to her excessively washing her hands as she is a masseuse. This encounter also only lasted maybe a minute or so. She was fully clothed for the hand job. I am really only worried about contracting herpes from these encounters as there was ZERO exchange in bodily fluids from genital to genital contact (There was none whatsoever). I have read that there is a minuscule chance of catching HPV from a hand job, but that is not something that I am worried about. My fiancé had a pap smear that came back positive for HPV, so there is a chance that I already have it, or atleast some strand of it. I have not been tested since the original tests that were done 7-9 days post exposure. I plan to go back next week to have my 8 week post exposure test done for the fellatio and then again at 12 weeks. I am unsure when/if I need to be tested for post exposure to the hand job.

So the good news is that neither of these encounters put you at risk for acquiring a sexually transmitted infection. I certainly don’t think it is necessary to retest. If the condom covered your entire penis during fellatio, then herpes is not a risk there either. You’ve been very careful with these sexual encounters and that’s a good thing.

Hi Terri. Thank you for your response and affirmation. I guess it really is just an anxiety thing. The condom did in fact cover my whole penis, though I am not sure if she pushed it on with her mouth or her hands, but I am pretty sure that it was her hands. I have seen that the statistics for people to have oral HSV2 is already really low and the rate at which they shed is extremely low as well, which I would assume that means I would have a one in several millions chance of catching HSV-2 from oral to genital contact. My biggest worry is about the handjob now. I have seen doctors say that there is no way to catch anything from a handjob and then I have seen others say that you can. Given that I did not see any visible lesions or anything on her hand, I guess my biggest fear is that she may have touched someone else before me and didn’t wash her hands or something. I think the retest would be more for my conscience so that I could continue to have sex with my fiancé without the fear of passing something on to her.
I tried to look around for statistics before coming onto here but everything is pretty contradicting. I have heard that HSV2 is very easy to catch and I have heard that it is not as easy as it is made out to be. I guess what really worries me is that I don’t know if what I have mentioned above is even a possibility. I also assume the main cause for transmission is those participating in unprotected vaginal sex, as I have seen on med help from you and others that herpes is almost never transmitted from oral to genital and especially with a condom. Not to mention that you said you have never even heard of a transmission from hand to genital, which is quite the relief.

I think you have no worries about the receiving oral sex part. I also don’t know who told you that you could herpes from being masturbated, but although I can’t say there is zero risk ever (herpetic whitlow does happen), I can say the risk is statistically so tiny I would not worry about it.

thank you again for all of your help. I have essentially waved off the oral sex possibility because here it is 8 weeks and I haven’t had so much as a fever. But there are a few last things that I would like to query about for my last posting.
1) if there were to be an outbreak, would it be all of a sudden or would there be slow on coming signs such as a stopped up nose one day and a fever the next and then lesions the day after that?
2) I don’t really even know what heretic Whitlock is, but I’m assuming it’s safe to say that she was not experiencing herpetic whitlow, even should she carry the hsv2 virus, the fact that she had no lesions or scarring when I went back a few days later?
3) thank you again for helping me answer my fears.

Stopped up noses are definitely not a sign of herpes. I think at this point, if you were going to have symptoms, they would just appear.
I think if she had herpetic whitlow you might well have noticed something on her hands – a Band Aid, sores, something.
You are most welcome.Terri
