Hi Terri,
I have been diagnosed with GHSv1 for almost about year.
Actually this is around the time last year that I believe that I contracted the virus. For the first 6 months I had no symptoms. I was taking my daily antiviral and just trying to live with my new life. Then around spring, I started having some issues with yeast infections and not being able to distinguish regular bumps or ingrown hairs to what would be herpes sores.
I recently over the past few weeks was having some itching. I had what i thought was classic yeast itching. Literally every part of my labia everything was itching. I started a 7 day monistat treatment. But I did not finish. I waited a little while and started another but didn’t finish that either. This was due to high stress and working late. I work at a college and classes just started and I am an integral part of making sure their day to day goes smoothly.
Finally I start to feel relief. I thought I had some soreness from itching but it had seemed to clear up. My partner who I had seen in about 4 months wanted to get together. I thought I was good to go. However, while we were together, it started to itch. So I start thinking that maybe I just haven’t gotten rid of the whole thing. Then I went on reddit freaking out, and saw that people had experienced the same symptoms and it actually ended up being herpes or being an outbreak. I then looked down and I relaized that what I thought was discharge and just overall what is leftover day to day, was peeling skin.
Now I am terrified that I have put him at risk.
I have always gotten yeast infections easily so I am not surprised when I get them but now I feel like I have put him even more at risk than he needed to be. We did use protection, but I know that condoms do not protect men like they do women.
I feel like I am going to be anxious for the next week. I am worried for him but I do not want to burden him with my worries.Does this sound like herpes? Is he at higher risk?

The peeling skin definitely is more likely from yeast. Herpes doesn’t cause peeling skin.
Condoms are useful in preventing transmission but are more effective at protecting women than men, as you know.
it sounds to me like you had a persistent yeast infectionTerri

Hello,
It indeed was just a result from the yeast infection. However I did want your guidance on just a few things if you don’t mind.
In your professional opinion: do you think someone who has constant nerve pain, tingling or a tickling sensation (w/ no OB present) is actually still shedding and therefore highly transmissible? Or would you say that this is more so to do with nerve damage from herpes itself (if that’s possible)?
I ask because I have had a nerve issue in the past and I also get this feeling where it feels like my bone I guess has an itch (not a cold feeling or the prickly static feeling of a numb foot but an itch) It almost feels like my leg should not be attached to my body. I know I sound crazy.
Is this something that any of your patients or anyone in the forum has talked to you about?
If its nerve damage should I consult a neurologist? Or does it sound herpes related?I am worried that these constant sensations mean I am shedding all the time and it makes me scared to have sex because I feel like as soon as I wait and let time go by I start getting the pain or sensation again. I know because we have nerves all over we are going to feel things and that it could be more than just herpes but now herpes is the first thing I assume.
Any advice is appreciated for this specific matter. Having sex is already so scary now and this is just an added worry that I will always be a risk to my partner no matter what I do.

Also sorry, I hope this doesn’t count as a post if it does let me know because it got cut off.
But would hard lumpy sores be herpes because it’s something I have gotten quite often but my original sores didn’t present like that at all.
I’ve been told that they are most likely cysts. The last one I had was there for a month. I take sitz baths and use hot compress to get it to go away but I didn’t know if this was something I needed to be concerned about either.
Every time I got to the doctor they aren’t by the time I can get in and idk if it could even be swabbed.
