So let me first say that you are NOT a ruined babe!
Now I’ll try to answer your questions.
1.What are the odds that I caught HSV1 orally and genitally that day?
It’s difficult to say, but your antibody test at 3 weeks post sexual exposure is very high for a new infection. If you did acquire HSV 1 from him, I would say that it is more likely from an early encounter of kissing. Having an index value of 8.0 likely did not happen in three weeks. So this would suggest that you acquired HSV 1 earlier than the sexual encounter, to me.
2.Or maybe I have had it orally for some weeks but also caught it genitally that night?
I don’t think that is likely either because once you have it in one location you are unlikely to get it in a new location. Having said that you may not have had HSV 1 very long prior to that so you may not have had antibody protection for HSV 1 at the sexual encounter.
3.Is it possible at all that I just had a reaction to the all the antibiotics that I have been given and my genital
symptoms are just infectious/bacterial?
That, in my opinion, is more likely, yes.
4.Could I have Genital HSV1 and 2?. He could have been shedding from both sides that day.
Which brings me to my most interesting question about all of this. His index value for HSV 2 is in the low positive range and he has a substantial HSV 1 result. So his HSV 2 may actually be a false positive. I most definitely think it would be worth him getting a herpes western blot to confirm his HSV 2 status because there is, statistically, an 85% chance this is a false positive result.
5.What is your best bet given the symptoms and your experience?
I doubt that you have HSV 2. Did anyone swab the oral lesions to determine if all of there oral symptoms are HSV 1? I mean, I’m guessing they are but they could be something bacterial as well. You could have had HSV 1 for many years and didn’t know it and that’s what is showing up in the antibody test. You symptoms could certainly be HSV 1 but perhaps not. Just asking if swabbing was done.
6.How long would I have to wait from now, to get a reliable Western blot? Remember that I started taking the Valtrex 2 weeks after exposure, I took it for 8 weeks and I have been off for 10 weeks.
I think you could test again in a month with western blot and have it be accurate. but FIRST have him test to see if he even has HSV 2. We know you both have HSV 1.
7.What percentage of reliability does my negative HSV2 result have at this point- 20 weeks given the time and the Valtrex intake? 50-50?, nothing at all?
Oh, I think higher than 50-50 for sure. Probably even higher given that he may not have HSV 2 at all, given his index value.
